Avisena Specialist Hospital is seeking a Clinical Dietitian to collaborate with healthcare teams, assess nutrition status, and provide evidence-based nutrition care aligned with medical goals. The role involves inpatient and outpatient consultations, educational outreach, and coordination with dietetics and hospital staff.

Requirements include a 4-year integrated undergraduate degree in Dietetics with internship, RD eligibility, and professional association membership.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Dietetics with internship training.
• Registered Dietitian or eligible for registration/certification in Malaysia.
• Member of Malaysian Dietitians’ Association (and optional international membership).

Responsibilities

• Monitor and optimize nutrition status based on medical condition.
• Provide dietary consultation and Medical Nutrition Therapy for inpatients and outpatients.
• Coordinate with consultants and other health professionals to meet nutritional needs.
• Recommend tube feeding and nutritional supplements as needed.
• Ensure hospital food services meet nutritional standards and quality.
• Educate healthcare staff on Medical Nutrition Therapy and diet plans.
• Educate patients and families using educational materials and sessions.

Job description

Clinical Dietitian work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary health care team to provide quality nutritional and dietetics services, including evidenced based medical nutrition therapy, that are integrated and compatible with the patients’ clinical/medical intervention goals and objectives and to ensure the patients’ nutritional needs are being met. This position reports directly to the Operations Manager (OM).

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

To monitor, assess and optimize nutrition status based on the patient’s current medical condition and/or nutrition adequacy.

Carry out dietary consultation and Medical Nutrition Therapy to referred inpatients and out-patients so patients can make nutritionally healthy food choices for the recovery process, prevent disease, and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Confer with consultants and other healthcare professionals, e.g. pharmacists, physiotherapists and nurses, to coordinate medical and nutritional needs.

Make recommendations for tube and intravenous feedings and /or dietary supplements/ oral nutritional supplements.

Liaise with the subsidiary department to monitor inpatient hospital food services for conformance to the nutritional adequacy based on the Diet Manual, prescribed diets and meets all the quality standards of palatability and appearance.

Educate other healthcare professionals such as the clinical nurses and hospital staff on Medical Nutrition Therapy and Diet Manual to ensure the proper therapeutic diet is given to inpatients.

Provide Patient and Family Education & health teaching and education through the Assessment of patient’s learning needs & using demonstration technique and educational materials such as brochures or pamphlets and other needed materials

REQUIREMENTS

Education Requirement:

Obtain a 4-year integrated undergraduate degree in Dietetics (with proof of having done Dietetics Internship Training) as the following:

Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Dietetics

Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Nutrition & Dietetics

Licensure/Certification Requirements

Registered Dietitian or eligible for registration or certification/licensure as required by Ministry of Health Malaysia / Malaysian Allied Health Professions Council (AHP).

A member of the Malaysian Dietitians’ Association.

A member of any international nutrition/Dietitian association (optional).

Promote dietary service to the public to create dietary service demand by joining marketing events, appearing in mass media, and submitting articles to magazines or newsletters.

Creating content and promoting dietary service in hospital social media.

Utilizing health informatic tools, electronic health records, and apps for patient care.
