Job summary

Hong Leong Assurance Berhad is seeking a Manager to lead climate risk and group risk reporting initiatives in Malaysia. The role focuses on identifying, assessing and mitigating climate-related risks across the enterprise and coordinating reporting across subsidiaries.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in risk/climate risk, with strong analytical abilities, knowledge of TCFD/NGFS/MAS guidelines, and proven stakeholder engagement skills. Advanced ESG qualifications are preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of experience in a risk management or climate risk, sustainability or environmental management role.
• Thorough understanding of climate science, climate‑related risks and their potential impact on the financial sector.
• Strong analytical skills and experience in using quantitative and qualitative techniques to assess and model climate‑related risks.
• Excellent project management and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex climate risk information to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Familiarity with relevant climate risk frameworks, guidelines and regulations (e.g., TCFD, NGFS, MAS guidelines).
• Relevant professional qualifications or certifications in risk management/ actuarial/climate risk, sustainability or environmental management.
• Strong understanding of Group Risk Governance frameworks, including risk appetite, escalation protocols, and reporting lines across Head Office and subsidiaries.
• Experience in Group‑wide risk reporting and consolidation, including coordination across entities to ensure consistency, completeness, and comparability of risk information.
• Strong attention to detail and quality assurance skills, ensuring accuracy and internal consistency of Group risk reports.
• Effective coordination and collaboration skills to work with Risk, Actuarial, Finance, Sustainability/ESG, and Business units across multiple entities.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive climate risk assessments to identify, analyze and evaluate potential climate-related risks, including physical, transition and liability risks.
• Develop and implement climate risk management frameworks, policies and procedures to effectively monitor, mitigate and report on climate-related risks.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate climate risk considerations into our overall enterprise risk management processes.
• Engage with key stakeholders, including regulators, industry bodies and subject matter experts, to stay abreast of emerging climate risk trends and best practices.
• Produce detailed climate risk reports and analysis to support strategic decision-making and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and frameworks.
• Design and deliver targeted climate risk training programs to build awareness and capabilities across the organization.
• Execute ESG-related initiatives and projects in accordance with Group-defined criteria, standards, policies, and governance frameworks, ensuring alignment across business units and entities.
• Support the Risk Management Task Force by contributing to risk assessments, analytical reviews, and ad‑hoc support activities related to enterprise and emerging risk topics.
• Coordinate Group-wide risk management reporting across HLAH and subsidiaries, ensuring consistency, completeness, and timely submission in accordance with internal governance and regulatory expectations.
• Conduct reviews of entities’ Risk Appetite Statements (RAS) to assess alignment with underlying risk profiles, capital adequacy, and approved business strategies, in accordance with Group and regulatory expectations.
• Liaise closely with HLFG RMD or relevant departments to align reporting expectations, methodologies, and deliverables, and to address gaps or clarifications arising from Group risk oversight.
• Conduct the annual review of the Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA) report prepared by HLIA & HLAS, including assessment of related stress testing and scenario analysis outputs developed by external consultants.
• Participate in risk management projects, committees, and working groups, contributing to the development and enhancement of Group risk management frameworks, processes, and controls.
• Ensure compliance with Company and regulatory risk management policies and guidelines.
