Job summary

Sleeping Lion Suites in Genting Highlands, Malaysia, invites applications for a hands-on Chief Engineer to lead the Engineering Department. You will oversee daily operations, maintenance, and safety of hotel facilities, while managing budgets and team performance to ensure a high standard of guest comfort.

You will plan preventive maintenance, ensure compliance with fire safety and statutory requirements, and drive energy-saving initiatives across M&E systems, lifts, and building infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Engineering, Building Services, or related discipline relevant to hotel operations.
• Minimum 3–4 years' experience in a similar role within hospitality.
• Strong knowledge of hotel engineering operations, preventive maintenance, M&E systems, and building maintenance.
• Good understanding of fire safety regulations and engineering statutory requirements.
• Strong leadership, team management, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience in budgeting, cost control, and contractor management.
• Able to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays when required.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Open to Malaysian citizens who are eligible to work in Malaysia.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the daily operations of the Engineering Department.
• Plan and execute preventive and corrective maintenance programmes for all hotel facilities and equipment.
• Ensure the efficient operation of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, mechanical systems, lifts, swimming pool, and building infrastructure.
• Monitor utility consumption and implement energy-saving initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with fire safety regulations, statutory requirements, and health & safety standards.
• Manage engineering budgets, maintenance costs, capital expenditure, and contractor performance.
• Coordinate renovation projects and work closely with all hotel departments to support operational needs.
• Lead, coach, train, and develop the Engineering team while ensuring effective manpower planning and scheduling.
• Maintain accurate engineering records, maintenance logs, inventories, and departmental documentation.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Chief Engineer to lead the Engineering Department and ensure the efficient operation, maintenance, and safety of all hotel facilities. This role is responsible for managing engineering operations, preventive maintenance, utilities, budgets, and leading a team to deliver a safe and comfortable environment for both guests and employees.
