SARAWAK DIGITAL ECONOMY CORPORATION is seeking a Chargeman to operate and maintain electrical installations within authorised competency. You will perform routine checks on switchboards, generators, UPS systems, batteries and protective equipment, respond to faults and alarms, and escalate complex issues to the Senior Chargeman.

Qualifications

• Valid Chargeman certification recognised by the Sarawak electrical authority.
• Valid registration, appointment or authorisation required to perform the assigned electrical duties.
• Experience in electrical operations, facility maintenance or data centres preferred.
• Willingness to standby, call-out and after-hours duties when required.
• Safety training such as electrical safety and permit-to-work is an added advantage.

• Record equipment condition, readings and maintenance findings.
• Maintain statutory logs, inspection records, test results and competency documentation.

• Valid Chargeman competency certification of the appropriate category issued or recognised by the relevant Sarawak electrical authority.
• Valid registration, appointment or authorisation required to perform the assigned electrical duties.
• Relevant experience in electrical operations, facility maintenance, telecommunications facilities, data centres or critical-power environments is preferred.
• Working knowledge of switchboards, generators, UPS systems, batteries, rectifiers, earthing and electrical-protection systems.
• Training in electrical safety, lockout-tagout, first aid, fire safety and permit-to-work requirements is an added advantage.
• Willingness to perform standby, call-out, travel and after-hours duties when operationally required.

Responsibilities

• Operate assigned electrical installations within the limits of the individual’s authorised competency.
• Perform routine operational checks on incoming supply, switchboards, generators, UPS systems, batteries, rectifiers, earthing and protection systems.
• Respond to electrical and facility alarms, faults and service interruptions.
• Conduct initial fault isolation and implement safe restoration measures where authorised.
• Escalate complex, high-risk or unresolved faults to the Senior Chargeman, relevant technical owner or approved contractor.
• Support standby, call-out and emergency restoration activities when assigned.
• Carry out assigned preventive-maintenance activities according to approved schedules and checklists.
• Perform authorised corrective-maintenance work on electrical and associated facility systems.
• Assist with testing, servicing and replacement of approved components.
• Record equipment condition, abnormal readings, defects and maintenance findings.
• Verify completion and basic functionality after authorised maintenance work.
• Escalate deteriorating equipment conditions and recurring defects.
• Comply with applicable electrical legislation, safety rules, competency requirements and approved operating procedures.
• Apply isolation, lockout-tagout and safe-work requirements before electrical work.
• Verify that required permits, approvals and safety controls are in place.
• Maintain statutory logs, inspection records, test results and competency-related documentation.
• Report unsafe conditions, electrical hazards, incidents and near misses immediately.
• Support statutory inspections, audits and corrective actions.
• Record assigned electrical parameters, equipment status, alarms, fuel levels and environmental conditions.
• Monitor abnormal trends affecting power reliability or facility availability.
• Check the operational readiness of generators, UPS systems, batteries and other backup-power systems.
• Report abnormal readings, reduced backup capacity and equipment deterioration.
• Support technical investigations into power-related incidents and recurring failures.
• Provide validated technical findings to the Senior Chargeman and relevant operational teams.
• Support the coordination and site supervision of approved electrical and facility contractors.
• Verify contractor attendance, work permits, safety compliance and authorised scope before work begins.
• Monitor work execution and report deviations, unsafe practices or incomplete work.
• Witness tests and record completion evidence where assigned.
• Assist the Senior Chargeman in verifying technical completion before operational acceptance.
• Escalate contractor non-performance and unresolved technical issues.
• Maintain assigned electrical tools, personal protective equipment and test instruments in serviceable condition.
• Check calibration status before using applicable test equipment.
• Record the issuance, use and return of tools, equipment and electrical spares.
• Report damaged, missing, expired or uncalibrated equipment.
• Monitor the availability of commonly used electrical spares and consumables
• Submit replenishment or replacement requirements through the approved process.
• Maintain shift logs, maintenance records, incident findings, readings and work-completion evidence.
• Update assigned facility and electrical records following approved work.
• Prepare concise technical reports on identified faults, risks and corrective actions.
• Maintain current procedures, checklists and emergency contact information.
• Participate in incident reviews, safety briefings, drills and technical training.
• Recommend practical improvements to electrical safety, reliability and maintenance practices.
