Job summary

AlphaESS is seeking an experienced Senior Business Development Manager to drive the development of Commercial & Industrial (C&I) energy storage and microgrid opportunities in Malaysia. This hands-on role focuses on originations, opening new accounts, building partnerships, and taking projects from 0 to 1.

You will leverage a strong network across Malaysia's C&I solar, energy storage, EPC, electrical and industrial sectors to identify opportunities, negotiate contracts, and develop scalable

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of business development or project development experience in C&I solar, energy storage or microgrid sectors.
• Proven track record of originating and developing projects from 0 to 1 in Malaysia.
• Strong network with industrial customers, EPCs, system integrators in Malaysia.
• Excellent commercial negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
• Willing to travel within Malaysia.

Responsibilities

• Business Development & Project Origination: Identify, originate, and develop new business opportunities for C&I energy storage, solar-plus-storage, and microgrid solutions in Malaysia.
• Develop projects from 0 to 1, from identifying opportunities and approaching customers through solution development, commercial negotiation, and contract closure.
• Build and manage a strong pipeline of C&I energy storage and microgrid projects.
• Develop direct relationships with industrial and commercial customers, including factories, industrial parks, commercial facilities and other energy-intensive users.
• Identify customers' energy requirements and work with internal teams to develop commercially viable solutions.
• Partner & Ecosystem Development: Build and maintain strong relationships with solar EPCs, electrical contractors, system integrators, ESCOs, developers, consultants, and other strategic partners.

As we continue to expand our business in Southeast Asia, we are looking for an experienced Senior Business Development Manager to drive the development of Commercial & Industrial (C&I) energy storage and microgrid opportunities in Malaysia.

This is a hands-on business development role for someone who can originate opportunities, open new accounts, build strategic partnerships, and develop projects from 0 to 1. We are particularly interested in candidates with strong networks across Malaysia's C&I solar, energy storage, EPC, electrical and industrial sectors.

Key Responsibilities

• Business Development & Project Origination
• Identify, originate, and develop new business opportunities for C&I energy storage, solar-plus-storage, and microgrid solutions in Malaysia.
• Develop projects from 0 to 1, from identifying opportunities and approaching customers through solution development, commercial negotiation, and contract closure.
• Build and manage a strong pipeline of C&I energy storage and microgrid projects.
• Develop direct relationships with industrial and commercial customers, including factories, industrial parks, commercial facilities and other energy-intensive users.
• Identify customers' energy requirements and work with internal teams to develop commercially viable solutions.
• Partner & Ecosystem Development
• Build and maintain strong relationships with solar EPCs, electrical contractors, system integrators, ESCOs, developers, consultants, and other strategic partners.
• Leverage existing industry networks to generate project opportunities and accelerate market penetration.
• Develop strategic partnerships that can create repeatable and scalable business opportunities.
• Support partners in integrating energy storage into solar PV, electrical distribution and microgrid solutions.
• Commercial & Project Development
• Lead customer discussions on project concepts, business models, commercial proposals, pricing and contract terms.
• Work closely with engineering and technical teams to develop suitable solutions based on customer requirements.
• Support feasibility assessment, tendering, proposals and commercial negotiations throughout the project development cycle.
• Coordinate internal and external stakeholders to drive opportunities toward successful commercial closure.
• Market Development
• Monitor developments in Malaysia's C&I solar, energy storage, microgrid and electricity markets.
• Track customer demand, competitors, regulations and emerging commercial models.
• Identify new market opportunities and provide actionable market insights to management.

Requirements

• 5–10 years of business development, project development or solution sales experience in C&I solar, energy storage, electrical/power solutions, microgrid or related renewable energy sectors.
• Proven experience developing business with commercial and industrial customers in Malaysia.
• Demonstrated track record of originating and developing projects from 0 to 1, rather than solely managing existing accounts.
• Strong existing network in Malaysia with industrial customers and/or EPCs, system integrators, electrical contractors, ESCOs or renewable energy partners.
• Proven track record of developing and closing C&I energy or power projects.
• Strong commercial negotiation, stakeholder management and project development capabilities.
• Able to work independently, identify opportunities and open new markets with limited supervision.
• Good understanding of C&I energy solutions and project economics.
• Proficient in English and Mandarin, and Bahasa Malaysia will be advantageous.
• Willing and able to travel within Malaysia as required.
