Job summary

Altus Engineering & Trading in Penang, Malaysia, seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to design machines, fixtures and mechanical systems from customer or internal requirements.

You will generate detailed 2D/3D drawings using SolidWorks or AutoCAD, collaborate with Sales, Production and Project Planning, and support BOM creation and specifications. A Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 3+ years of experience is required.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of working experience in automation design, machine design, or fixture design.
• Proficiency in CAD or CAM software (preferably SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD).
• Good understanding of mechanical systems, motion components, pneumatics, and basic control systems.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
• Self-motivated and able to manage design tasks independently with minimal supervision.
• Able to work under pressure and adapt to changing project priorities and tight timelines.

Responsibilities

• Design machines, fixtures, and mechanical systems based on customer or internal requirements.
• Create detailed 2D and 3D drawings using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
• Collaborate with Sales, Production, and Project Planning teams to understand requirements and feasibility.
• Work closely with Electrical, Control, and Software Engineers to integrate mechanical designs into automation solutions.
• Generate BOMs and assist the purchasing team with specifications.
• Involve in concept development, prototyping, and design reviews.
• Provide technical support during fabrication, assembly, and testing phases.
• Ensure designs meet safety, functionality, and manufacturability standards.
• Maintain proper documentation for all designs and project files.
