Job summary

Barry Callebaut Malaysia is hiring an Automation Engineer on a 2-year contract to maintain, troubleshoot and optimize automated equipment to sustain high production performance in Pasir Gudang, Johor.

The ideal candidate holds a Diploma or Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Automation Engineering with 3–4 years in automation, PLC programming (Siemens/Allen-Bradley/Omron), robotics, SCADA and HMI, and strong problem-solving, documentation, and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Automation Engineering or a related field.
• 3–4 years of experience in automation, PLC programming, or industrial maintenance.
• Proficiency in PLC programming (Siemens, Allen Bradley, Omron, etc.).
• Experience with robotics, SCADA, HMI, and industrial automation systems.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical troubleshooting.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Good communication and documentation skills.
• Experience in a food manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with ISO standards and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance on automated equipment and machinery.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and automation issues.
• Ensure minimal downtime by promptly addressing technical failures.
• Assist in the programming, installation, and optimization of PLCs, robotics, and other automation systems.
• Conduct system calibration, testing, and adjustments to improve performance.
• Work closely with engineers and operators to enhance system efficiency.
• Analyze equipment performance and recommend improvements to enhance productivity.
• Identify opportunities to enhance automation processes and reduce manual intervention.
• Implement preventive measures to minimize breakdowns and defects.
• Maintain detailed records of repairs, maintenance schedules, and system modifications.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and company policies.
• Provide technical support for audits and inspections as required.
• Work closely with production and engineering teams to improve automation workflows.
• Provide training and guidance to operators and junior technicians on automation systems.

The Automation Engineer (2 Years Contract) is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving automated systems and machinery to ensure efficient production and operational performance. This role requires a strong technical background in automation, PLC programming, and mechanical systems.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting

• Perform routine maintenance on automated equipment and machinery.
