Job summary

Weichai Singapore Pte Ltd seeks an (Assistant) Project Engineer to support Data Centre project execution in Malaysia. You will ensure compliance with specifications, schedules and budgets, while maintaining safety standards.

You will assist in project management, documentation, FAT/SAT support, and coordination with contractors, clients and internal teams, with travel to APAC as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.
• Proven experience as Project Engineer or similar in Data Centre/critical infra.
• Strong PM principles and construction process knowledge.
• Experience with genset or power/critical equipment preferred.
• Proficient in project management software.
• Strong organization, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work in multicultural teams.
• Knowledge of local regulations, safety requirements and industry standards.
• Willingness to travel to project sites, including APAC locations.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate project activities to ensure compliance with specifications, drawings, schedules and contracts.
• Assist in developing and executing project plans with timelines, budgets and resources.
• Monitor progress and address risks impacting delivery.
• Provide admin support for project operations, including progress claims, payment docs, and finance records.
• Track project costs and payment status with finance/commercial teams.
• Prepare, submit and maintain project documentation and test reports.
• Assist FAT/SAT to verify quality, performance and standards.
• Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams.
• Communicate project status, costs and schedules to stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with regulations, safety protocols and company policies.
• Review monthly progress reports and maintain project records.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and contribute to continuous improvement.
• Support Malaysia-based recruitment coordination for project resources.
• Perform other tasks as assigned.

This role is critical in supporting the successful execution of Data Centre projects, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, schedules, budgets, and safety requirements. The ideal candidate will possess strong coordination, documentation, and communication skills and thrive in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management and Execution

• Coordinate and oversee project activities to ensure compliance with approved specifications, drawings, schedules, and contractual requirements.
• Support the Project Manager in developing and executing project plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
• Monitor project progress and proactively address risks or issues impacting delivery.

Administrative and Commercial Support

• Provide administrative support for project operations, including processing progress claims, payment documentation, and finance-related records.
• Track project costs, budgets, and payment status in coordination with finance and commercial teams.
• Prepare, submit, and maintain all project documentation and test reports.

Testing and Quality Assurance

• Assist the Project Manager during Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) to verify compliance with quality, performance, and contractual standards.
• Ensure test results and commissioning documentation are properly recorded and approved.

Coordination and Stakeholder Communication

• Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure smooth project execution.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders on project status, costs, schedules, and technical matters.
• Support day-to-day engagement with clients, consultants, and safety personnel.

Compliance, Safety and Regulations

• Ensure all project activities comply with local regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
• Monitor site activities to ensure adherence to safety protocols and promote a safe working environment.

Reporting and Documentation Control

• Review and analyse monthly progress reports and supporting documentation.
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date project records, including drawings, reports, and correspondence.

Process Improvement

• Identify opportunities to improve project execution processes, efficiency, and productivity.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the project team.

Regional and Malaysia-Specific Responsibilities

• Support insurance coordination (building, site, goods, shipment-related insurance) as required.
• Assist with shipping and logistics processes, including documentation and coordination.
• Support end-to-end recruitment coordination for project execution resources when required, particularly for Malaysia-based projects.

Additional Duties

• Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Project Manager or management.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven experience in a Project Engineer or similar role, preferably within Data Centre or critical infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of project management principles and construction processes.
• Experience with genset systems or similar power/critical equipment is highly preferred.
• Proficient in project management software and tools.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in multicultural and cross-functional teams.
• Knowledge of local regulations, safety requirements, and industry standards.
• Willingness to travel to project sites, including international locations within the APAC region.
