Job description

Our client is a premier, highly respected regional industrial engineering and material handling technology conglomerate with an extensive footprint across Southeast Asia. Renowned for engineering high-reliability industrial lifting systems, automated cranes, and specialized material handling machinery, they deliver turnkey engineering solutions to major manufacturing, logistics, infrastructure, and heavy industrial facilities across the region. To support their expanding project pipeline in Malaysia, they are seeking an organized, technically sound Project Engineer.

Mission

The Project Engineer holds end-to-end technical execution accountability for assigned industrial machinery and crane integration projects. Bridging customer technical expectations with internal engineering, procurement, and field site installation teams, this role is responsible for driving project deliveries strictly within contractual timelines, safety standards, and allocated budgets.

Key Responsibilities & Activities
1. End-to-End Project Execution & Resource Planning (SAP)
  • Project Ownership: Execute assigned industrial projects from initial technical handover to final client acceptance, adhering strictly to approved budgets and delivery schedules.

  • Scope Verification: Review and establish the technical scope of supply alongside sales teams, verifying original budget assumptions and requesting adjustments where necessary prior to project commitment.

  • Resource Management: Determine required mechanical/electrical components and lead time schedules, utilizing SAP ERP systems to reserve and order materials through the procurement department.

2. Client Technical Interface & Site Commissioning
  • Technical Lead: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients once a project commences, managing technical clarifications, drawing submissions, and design reviews (excluding commercial scope).

  • Site Feasibility: Conduct comprehensive site surveys to identify physical layout constraints, space limitations, and structural considerations before manufacturing and delivery.

  • Testing & Handover: Oversee delivery logistics, physical site installation, Testing & Commissioning (T&C), and final operational handover to the customer.

3. Safety, DOSH Regulatory Compliance & Governance
  • Regulatory Approvals: Collaborate with technical administrative teams to compile and verify engineering design submission documentation for the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) approvals and site load testing.

  • Site Safety Oversight: Partner with customer site management and contractor crews to ensure all installation, lifting, and T&C activities strictly comply with Malaysian workplace safety regulations and plant safety protocols.

4. Financial Triggering & Scope Variation Control
  • Variation Management: Identify and document scope variations or site deviations in advance, aligning with Project Managers and Sales before committing additional work to the client.

  • Milestone Billing: Coordinate with Sales and Finance Controllers to trigger project billing milestones in accordance with contractual payment schedules.

  • Budget Reporting: Monitor project expenditures continuously and report any cost variances or budget anomalies to leadership.

Requirements
Education & Technical Credentials
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

  • Experience Level: More than 3 years of active project engineering experience in industrial equipment, cranes, material handling, or M&E installation environments.

  • Regulatory Familiarity: Basic exposure to or knowledge of site safety protocols, DOSH design submission standards, or site installation procedures for heavy equipment is advantageous.

Key Attributes & Software Skills
  • Software Literacy: Proficiency with CAD software and MS Office; hands-on exposure to SAP ERP software is a strong advantage.

  • Coordination Capability: Excellent organizational skills with the ability to interface effectively between client project teams, internal procurement, and on-site sub-contractors.

  • Mobility: Willingness to travel to client project sites across Malaysia for site inspections, safety audits, and commissioning work.

Benefits
  • Competitive basic salary with project performance incentives.
  • Comprehensive medical, outpatient, and insurance coverage.
  • Structured mentorship and career advancement pathways into Senior Project Management roles.
  • Direct exposure to Tier-1 industrial engineering standards and large-scale manufacturing infrastructure projects.
