ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (DS13) - Department of Computer Science Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology

Post: Assistant Professor | Grade: DS13 | Status of Appointment: Permanent (Malaysian only) | Basic Salary: RM6,210.00 – RM14,370.00 (based on experience) | Area of Specialisation: Computer Science (CS) | Department: Department of Computer Science, Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology | Location: Gombak

Scope

As a CS Lecturer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the minds of the next generation of CS professionals. Your responsibilities span teaching, curriculum development, research, and community engagement in order to deliver an outstanding educational experience.

The candidate shall be a member of the staff of the Department of Computer Science (DCS) assigned by KICT and shall perform teaching, examining, and research duties and other obligations normally required of an academic staff member of IIUM. Moral and religious obligations towards colleagues and students form part of the academic duties. Attendance at meetings related to administrative positions is required as mandated by the university directives.

  • Curriculum Development: Design and update comprehensive CS courses that reflect the latest industry trends and academic standards.
  • Teaching Excellence: Deliver engaging lectures, tutorials, and lab sessions across a variety of CS subjects, incorporating cutting‑edge technologies.
  • Student Assessment: Create and evaluate examinations, assignments and projects to gauge student knowledge and skills, providing constructive feedback.
  • Research Contribution: Conduct and publish impactful research in the CS field and supervise student research projects and theses.
  • Professional Development: Keep current with technological advancements and pedagogical strategies through continued education and active participation in academic communities.
  • Community and Industry Engagement: Collaborate with industry experts to ensure curriculum relevance and foster opportunities for student placements.
  • Mentorship: Offer academic advice and personal mentorship to students, guiding them toward academic and professional success.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Candidates must hold a Doctorate (PhD), Master’s and Bachelor’s Degree in Computing from a recognised university.

Minimum Competencies

Typically encompass a blend of academic qualifications, teaching abilities, research skills and personal attributes that enable effective education delivery, student engagement and contribution to the academic community. Prior experience in teaching and research in the higher‑education sector is an added advantage.

Language Qualifications

All candidates must have obtained:

  • Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English Language (including oral examination) at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level O or equivalent qualification recognised by the Government (for Malaysian citizens).
  • IELTS Band 6 / MUET Band 4. Candidates without any of these qualifications will be required to sit for the IIUM English Language Proficiency Test.
