Job summary

Sunsuria Bhd is seeking a qualified finance professional in Malaysia to lead financial reporting, month-end closing, and project cost accounting. The role supervises a finance team and collaborates with project, sales, procurement, and corporate functions to ensure accurate, timely reporting and strong internal controls.

The successful candidate will oversee revenue and profit recognition for property development projects, monitor cash flow, and coordinate external audits and tax submissions

Qualifications

• Five years of finance and accounting experience, preferably in property development.
• Experience in monthly/year-end closing and management reporting.
• Experience with statutory compliance, audits, and taxation.

Job description

Job Responsibilities:

1. Financial Reporting and Month-End Closing

• Manage and review monthly and year-end closing activities to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare and review management accounts, financial statements, journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Review accounts receivable, accounts payable, bank reconciliations, and intercompany transactions.
• Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records across the assigned portfolio of companies.

2. Revenue, Cost and Profit Recognition

• Oversee revenue and profit recognition in accordance with applicable accounting standards and the progress and sales status of property development projects.
• Monitor property sales, inventory movements, development costs, and project profitability.
• Review development cost allocation and segregation to ensure accurate project costing and financial reporting.
• Analyse cost variances and financial performance, highlighting significant issues and recommending corrective actions where necessary.

3. Statutory Compliance, Audit and Taxation

• Coordinate annual external audits, tax computations, tax submissions, and other statutory reporting requirements.
• Prepare and review audit schedules, supporting documentation, and responses to audit queries.
• Ensure timely submission of statutory returns and financial information to the relevant authorities.
• Maintain compliance with applicable financial reporting standards, tax regulations, company legislation, and internal policies.

4. Cash Flow and Financial Control

• Monitor cash flow positions and funding requirements to ensure sufficient funds are available for operating expenses, payroll, project commitments, and statutory payments.
• Review payment schedules and manage payment timing to support effective cash flow planning.
• Monitor financial controls and ensure adherence to established approval limits, policies, and procedures.
• Identify potential financial risks and recommend appropriate control measures.

5. Team Supervision and Cross-Functional Coordination

• Supervise, guide, and review the work of subordinates to ensure accuracy, productivity, and compliance with established procedures.
• Provide guidance on accounting matters and resolve operational issues within the finance function.
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders, including project, sales, procurement, and other corporate functions, to obtain financial information and resolve discrepancies.
• Support process improvements to enhance reporting efficiency, internal controls, and overall finance operations.

Job Requirements:

• Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; professional accounting qualification or MIA membership is an advantage.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in finance and accounting, preferably within the property development or real estate industry.
• Hands-on experience in monthly and year-end closing, management reporting, revenue and profit recognition, accruals, and development cost accounting.
• Experience managing financial reporting and accounting activities across multiple companies.
• Familiarity with statutory compliance, external audits, taxation, and applicable financial reporting standards.
• Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to meet reporting deadlines.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to supervise a team and collaborate effectively with stakeholders across different functions.
