Job summary

The International School of Penang (Uplands) in George Town, Malaysia, seeks an Assistant Librarian to manage library materials, support ICT in learning, and teach information skills to students aged 5–18. You will assist with cataloguing, book exchanges, and maintaining up-to-date collections in coordination with teachers.

Responsibilities include library tours, literature appreciation lessons, and ensuring access to e-databases and journals, while fostering a welcoming and conducive reading

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Teaching and Library qualification.
• At least 3 years of working experience in a Library or School.
• Experience in teaching information skills.
• Good communication skills in written and spoken English.
• Basic IT skills (Microsoft Office, Internet, E-databases, Library systems).
• Ability to work with students from 5 years to 18 years.
• Working Hours from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm.
• Confidence, warmth, sensitivity, reliability, and enthusiasm.
• Ability to communicate effectively with children.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Be willing to learn the library cataloguing system.

Responsibilities

• Receive and process all library materials.
• Assist with ordering and maintain up-to-date collections for ages 5–18.
• Ensure e-databases and e-journals are accessible.
• Conduct library tours as required.
• Teach primary lessons on using the Library and literature appreciation.
• Catalog and manage book exchanges; assist teachers.
• Maintain library books and repair damaged items.
• Support structured activities and teaching programs; adapt to pupil responses.
• Promote ICT use in learning; develop pupils' ICT independence.
• Manage student behavior in the Library at all times.
