Job summary

IHG Hotels & Resorts in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a Hotel Engineering Manager to lead the engineering team and ensure safe, reliable operations across all hotel systems including electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing and water treatment. You will supervise maintenance staff, coordinate with suppliers, and drive a culture of safety and service excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Engineering, or advanced vocational training in a related discipline.
• Minimum 2–3 years' experience in general building maintenance, construction, or hotel engineering.
• Relevant professional certification or license, where required by law.
• Hotel or hospitality engineering experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of building systems, including electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and plumbing.
• Fluent English required; other languages an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Assist in training all engineering staff in compliance with governmental and safety regulations, ensuring the team has the tools and equipment needed.
• Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments, staying informed of maintenance needs across the hotel.
• Support the preparation of the annual departmental operating budget and financial plans.
• Monitor expenses with a focus on energy management, preventive maintenance, and capital planning.
• Understand and respond to guest needs to ensure a high level of satisfaction with the hotel's facilities.
• Support the preventive maintenance programme to keep all guest-facing systems in service, including lighting, refrigeration, heating, air-conditioning, water treatment, and pools.

• Assist in leading hotel renovations and other projects, supporting contract negotiation and timely completion within budget
• Perform other duties as assigned; may serve as manager on duty

Accountabilities

• Supports the Director of Engineering in the safe, efficient operation of all hotel engineering systems
• Timely completion of preventive maintenance schedules across guest and back-of-house areas
• Compliance with safety, regulatory, and environmental standards across the engineering department
• May supervise engineering team members and contractors in the Director of Engineering's absence
