Overview.ai in Penang, Malaysia seeks an Application Engineer to support and optimize over 100 AI vision cameras at customer sites in Indonesia, and assist with new deployments.
You will serve as the local expert, ensuring rapid troubleshooting, system health, and seamless integration with factory automation. The role requires hands-on electrical/digital troubleshooting, PLC familiarity, and strong communication with HQ and customers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 3+ years in automation with proficiency across PLC systems.
- Experience troubleshooting electrical circuits with diagnostic tools (multimeters, oscilloscopes).
- Knowledge of NPN/PNP sensor technology and signal conditioning.
- Familiarity with PLC ladder logic and modifications.
- Experience managing contractors or small technical teams.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and optimize 100+ Overview.ai vision inspection cameras across Hanoi customer sites; provide rapid troubleshooting to minimize production downtime.
- Perform regular preventive maintenance and system health checks; oversee and coordinate a small team of contractors for routine tasks.
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot Overview.ai vision inspection systems on new production lines; work with PLC platforms and protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, OPC UA).
- Ensure seamless integration with factory automation equipment; use multimeters and oscilloscopes to diagnose and fix electrical and signal quality issues.
- Deliver on-site technical support and guidance to customers; conduct training programs for customer staff; build partnerships with factory teams.
- Address technical challenges such as double triggering, camera response problems, or lighting inconsistencies; adjust PLC ladder logic as needed; refine inspection parameters to reduce false rejects; collaborate with HQ engineering teams.

We are looking for a talented and adaptable Application Engineer to become our inaugural team member in Penang, Malaysia. In this role, you will maintain and optimize over 100 AI vision inspection cameras installed across customer facilities in Indonesia and assist with new production line deployments.
This role calls for strong industrial automation expertise, a problem-solving mindset, and the ability to work independently while managing multiple customer sites. As the dedicated local expert, you will act as the primary technical contact for Indonesian customers, ensuring swift and reliable support as well as optimal system performance.
Maintain and optimize 100+ Overview.ai vision inspection cameras across Hanoi customer sites
Provide rapid troubleshooting to minimize production downtime
Perform regular preventive maintenance and system health checks
Oversee and coordinate a small team of contractors for routine tasks

Build trusted partnerships with factory teams, production management, and technical staff
Document and report recurring issues to enhance product features
Address technical challenges such as double triggering, camera response problems, or lighting inconsistencies
Adjust PLC ladder logic as needed to resolve integration issues
Refine inspection parameters to decrease false rejects while ensuring high detection accuracy
Collaborate with headquarters engineering teams for system improvements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related discipline
3+ years of experience in automation, with proficiency across multiple PLC systems
Practical experience troubleshooting electrical circuits using diagnostic tools (multimeters, oscilloscopes)
Strong understanding of electrical concepts, including NPN/PNP sensor technology and signal conditioning
Familiarity with PLC ladder logic and ability to make necessary modifications
Experience managing contractors or small technical teams
Proficiency with industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, OPC UA)
Capability to modify circuits (e.g., resistors, capacitors) to resolve signal problems
Knowledge of machine vision lighting and triggering systems
Excellent practical diagnostic and problem-solving skills
Working proficiency in English for technical documentation and coordination with HQ
Strong communication skills for client and team interactions
Mandarin language proficiency is an extremely strong plus
Malaysian language proficiency is a strong plus, but not required
Experience with AI-based or automated vision inspection systems
Familiarity with automotive or electronics manufacturing environments
Prior knowledge of Overview.ai platforms or similar systems
Experience in high-volume production settings
