Job summary

KHK Plantation seeks an Assistant Manager, Agronomist to lead agronomic planning across the estate, drive field trials, and design robust fertilizer and agrochemical programs. The role includes monitoring soil health, irrigation, and pest conditions while translating research into practical field applications.

You will guide Junior Agronomists and estate teams, ensuring high crop performance, documentation, and compliance with SOPs and sustainability standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field.
• Proficient in Bahasa Malaysia and English; Mandarin is an added advantage.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage field trials, including tree growth monitoring and treatment implementation.
• Develop and oversee end-to-end agrochemical and fertilizer programs, with planning and budgeting.
• Monitor crop performance, soil health, irrigation, and pests to ensure productivity.
• Supervise Junior Agronomists, tree inspectors, and field teams, ensuring proper application and follow-up actions.
• Maintain comprehensive records of agronomic activities and environmental indicators.
• Drive R&D initiatives, translating findings into field applications for continuous improvement.
• Provide technical advisory and training to estate management and staff, ensuring SOPs and sustainability.
• Support team management, resource planning, and reporting to management.

About Your Role

The Agronomist is responsible for overseeing and driving agronomic planning, execution, and continuous improvement across the estate. This role involves leading field trials, developing and implementing comprehensive agrochemical and fertilizer programs, and ensuring optimal crop performance through effective monitoring of soil health, irrigation systems, and pest and disease conditions. The incumbent will play a key role in translating research findings into practical field applications, while providing technical leadership, guidance, and training to Junior Agronomists and estate teams.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage field trials, including tree growth monitoring, treatment implementation, and evaluation of outcomes.

Develop and oversee end-to-end agrochemical and fertilizer programs, including annual planning, scheduling, and budget control.

Monitor and analyze crop performance, soil health, irrigation systems, and pest and disease conditions to ensure optimal plantation productivity.

Supervise and guide Junior Agronomists, tree inspectors, and field teams in executing treatments, ensuring proper application and follow-up actions.

Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of agronomic activities, including trial data, laboratory inventories, and environmental indicators.

Drive research and development initiatives, translating findings into practical field applications and continuous improvement of agronomic practices.

Provide technical advisory and training to estate management and staff, while ensuring compliance with SOPs, sustainability, and environmental standards.

Support team management and operational effectiveness, including resource planning, performance monitoring, and reporting to management.

Requirement & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree or higher (Master/PHD) in Agronomy, Crop Science, Horticulture, or related field.

Proficient in Bahasa Malaysia and English; Mandarin is an added advantage for stakeholder Management.

Minimum 6-7 years of relevant experience in medium to large-scale durian plantation operations.

Proven ability to conduct comprehensive field assessments and implement effective solutions to agronomic challenges.

Advanced and integrated understanding of crop nutrition, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), soil health, irrigation systems, and post-harvest handling.
