We are seeking a qualified and registered 132kV Competent Electrical Engineer to oversee the operation and maintenance of a 29.9MW Solar Power Plant (SPP). The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring compliance with statutory requirements under the Energy Commission (ST), supporting the licensing process, maintaining the electrical installation in accordance with applicable regulations, and ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the plant. The position also serves as the primary technical liaison with regulatory authorities and grid stakeholders, including Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST), TNB Grid Maintenance (TNB GM), TNB Grid System Operator (TNB GSO), and the Single Buyer.
Key responsibilities
Serve as the appointed 132kV Competent Electrical Engineer as required by the Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga)
Assist in obtaining and maintaining all statutory licences and approvals required for the Solar Power Plant, including the SPP (Generation) Licence
Ensure compliance with the Electricity Supply Act, Electricity Regulations, Grid Code, Malaysian Grid Code, and other applicable statutory requirements
Act as the competent person responsible for the operation of the 132kV electrical installation
Manage and supervise the safe operation and maintenance of the 29.9MW Solar Power Plant and associated 132kV electrical systems
Ensure all preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities are carried out in accordance with approved procedures and industry best practices
Monitor plant performance, system reliability, and equipment health to maximise plant availability
Lead fault investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions for electrical incidents and system abnormalities
Act as the primary liaison with Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST), TNB Grid Maintenance (TNB GM), TNB Grid System Operator (TNB GSO), Single Buyer (SB), and other government agencies and utility authorities as required
Maintain all statutory records, operational logs, maintenance reports, and compliance documentation
About you
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent from a recognised university
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in high-voltage electrical systems, substations, or power generation facilities
Experience in the operation and maintenance of utility-scale solar power plants is highly preferred
Experience in commissioning, protection systems, SCADA, and grid interconnection is an added advantage
Familiarity with Malaysian Grid Code and ST regulatory requirements
Strong knowledge of 132kV interconnection facility, protection systems, transformers, switchgear, and transmission systems
Good understanding of ST regulations, Grid Code, and power system operations
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
Ability to prepare technical reports and regulatory submissions
