Caterpillar Inc. seeks a seasoned engineer to lead automation of welding cells and manage projects for new machines and systems. You will evaluate feasibility, install and validate equipment and oversee production improvements.

Candidates should have 5+ years in welding processes, robotics experience, and strong English; relocation is offered for this onsite role in a manufacturing environment.

Formación

  • 5+ years in welding processes with arc welding and robotics

Responsabilidades

  • Implement new automated/robotized welding cells
  • Manage projects for purchasing machines and welding cells
  • Conduct feasibility studies for automation of manual welds
  • Test and evaluate new technologies for PQVC benefits
  • Analyze production capacity to meet schedules
  • Estimate cycle times
  • Support for Engineering Changes/NPIs/Ramp-Ups
  • Update standard work and robot programs
  • Ensure weld quality with robots (3 parts with 98.5% conformance)

Role: Supports multiple arc welding robots and automated systems and leads projects to evaluate and implement new welding automated systems.

What you'll do:
  • Implementation of new automated/robotized welding cells
  • Manage Projects for Purchasing New Machines, Equipment, and Welding Cells, overseeing and controlling all phases of the project: feasibility study, acquisition, installation, validation, and delivery (technical acceptance)
  • Feasibility Study for Automation of parts currently welded manually, with impact on OPACC- Operating Profit After Capital Charge
  • Research and Test New Technologies that bring benefits to the process within PQVC - People, Quality, Velocity and Cost.
  • Production Capacity Analysis to meet Execution Product Plan (EPP) and Executive Production Schedule (EPS) requirements
  • Cycle time estimation
  • Support for Engineering Changes / NPI / NCI / Ramp-Up
  • Update of documents (Standard Work Documents)
  • Update and validation of robot programs
  • Weld quality control for robots (robot must be able to weld 3 consecutive parts in automated mode with at least 98,5% conformance)
Education Required
  • Bachelor’s degree related to a field of choice, such as Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or Industrial Engineering
  • Fluent English (Intermediate to Advanced)
Skills
  • Robotic Process Automation (RPA) Knowledge of robotic process automation (RPA) techniques and processes.
  • Ability to develop and deploy RPA solutions across various applications.
  • Proficiency with different welding robot brands (ABB, Fanuc, Cloos, IGM, among others).
  • Industrial Welding Robot Implementation Ability to conduct economic feasibility studies (Manual Welding vs. Automated Welding).
  • Project management skills.
  • Process validation, including PPAP (Production Part Approval Process).
  • Welding Robot Programming Offline programming.
  • Programming of GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) robotic processes.
  • Multi-pass robotic welding programming.
  • Programming with synchronized external axes (Welding Positioners).
  • Use of advanced welding programming functions: Touch Sense Seam Tracking Work Object Definition Tool Center Point (TCP) Definition Analysis and Problem-Solving Identification and analysis of weld defects using RCCA, Ishikawa, and similar tools.
  • Continuous process improvement impacting PQVC through Lean methodology (A3).
Considerations for the best candidates
  • Minimum of 5 years in welding processes, including arc welding, as well as background in the metal- mechanic industry and in the implementation of robotic systems
  • Advanced English
