McDonald’s Global Technology in Mexico City is seeking a Principal Engineer to own the transformation of our POS and Restaurant technologies. You will partner with Product Management and Architecture to define and lead execution of forward-looking initiatives and manage 3rd party engineering vendors.

This role focuses on delivering high-value transformations, improving customer experiences, and reducing repetitive tasks.

Formación

• Bachelor’s degree in CS or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Strong CS fundamentals: OOD, data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.
• 3+ years of software development with C# and .NET Core.
• 1+ year contributing to application design (architecture, patterns, reliability, scaling).
• 1+ year hands-on AWS experience including Lambda, SQS, SNS, API Gateway, ECS/EKS.
• Experience designing RESTful APIs and microservices with scalable contracts.
• Experience with asynchronous messaging (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS) and event-driven architecture.
• Advanced English communication skills.
• Strong understanding of SOA and layered architecture, DI and domain-driven design.
• Experience with unit/integration testing and static analysis tools like SonarQube; Agile environment.
• Knowledge of Git, Bitbucket, Artifactory, Jira, TeamCity; CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, Jenkins).

Job Description

McDonald’s, one of the most recognized brands in the world, is seeking a skilled Principal Engineer to own the transformation and ongoing evolution of our Point of Sale (POS) and Restaurant

In this strategy and transformation focused role, you will partner with our Product Management and Architecture teams to define and lead all aspects of execution of the forward-looking vision of McDonald’s POS and Restaurant Technologies and the high-value transformation initiatives that will fuel our journey. Additionally, you will be the primary owner of our relationship with our 3rd party engineering vendors.

That said, the biggest area of increase in our spending has been in technology, which is helping to drive our growth.We’relooking at how to use technology to improvethe customerexperience and build new customer experiences.We’realso exploring technologies that can help us reduce oreliminaterepetitive tasks and make employees’ jobs more interesting and rewarding. Duties

• Lead all aspects of development, mentoring and training of staff.
• As a software development engineer on a team, you will play a pivotal role in crafting the definition, vision, design, roadmap and development of product features from beginning to end.
• Design, implement, test, deploy and maintain innovative software solutions to transform service performance, durability, cost, and security.
• Educate and advise Senior Management, comprising resources from the Business and Functional disciplines and IT business and operations functions around data management best practices and resulting benefits, to achieve the objectives; resolve issues called out from all data management partners
• Work in an agile, startup-like development environment, where you are always working on the most meaningful priorities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent years of experience.
• Solid knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals (object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm analysis, design patterns).
• At least 3 years of professional experience in software development, specializing in C# and .NET Core, excluding internships.
• At least 1 year of experience contributing to the application design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.
• At least 1 year of hands‑on experience with AWS (or comparable cloud platform such as GCP), including services such as Lambda, SQS, SNS, API Gateway, ECS/EKS, or equivalent.
• Demonstrated experience designing and building RESTful APIs and microservices following industry best practices (scalability, versioning, idempotency, error handling, contract‑first design).
• Experience with asynchronous messaging patterns (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS) and event-driven architecture.
• Advanced proficiency in written and spoken English is required.
• Strong understanding of services‑oriented and layered software architecture, including separation of concerns, dependency injection, and domain‑driven design principles.
• Experience with unit testing, integration testing, and static analysis tools such as SonarQube or equivalentExperience developing software within an Agile environment.
• Strong knowledge of configuration management tools like Git, Bitbucket, Artifactory, Jira, TeamCity or similar.Experience developing and releasing software within a CI/CD environment (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, Jenkins, or similar).
• Familiarity with code debugging tools and strong debugging skills (call stack analysis, profiling, breakpoint evaluation, logging)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, are self‑driven and deliver high quality results in a fast‑paced environment
• Highly quantitative with great judgment and passion for building a phenomenal customer experience.
