Overview

When you join Amazon as an Area Shift Manager, you’ll gain experience leading a large and diverse team to ensure your area keeps pace with demand. This hands-on role exposes you to the complexity of operations at a global business and what it takes to make everything run seamlessly. You will drive productivity while working closely with colleagues to address challenges, making no two days the same. You will have your leadership capacity stretched to its full potential as a front-line leader, investing in others and developing a people-focused leadership style while mastering tools, processes, and operations that support Amazon’s customer-centric approach.

Responsibilities
  • Promote a culture of safety and wellbeing
  • Analyze and implement corrective actions to maintain high quality and productivity across all shifts to meet business objectives
  • Support and lead a team and handle administrative work while building and supporting a strong team culture
  • Analyze performance and suggest process improvements to optimize work and improve customer service
  • Promote best practices and continuous process improvements in areas like health and safety and productivity
  • Collaborate with other managers to standardize shift processes
A day in the life

You’ll work shifts and be based at one of our operational sites. Your main focus will be to maintain safety standards within your team and across your site, monitor and maintain process efficiency, and perform routine team management and daily operational tasks. You’ll also handle individual escalations, process improvement work, and wide-scale operational contingency planning. You will collaborate with colleagues in other teams and external partners to meet customer demands and targets, analyzing data and performance metrics with leaders in your business area and discussing the operational pros and cons of technical improvements with engineers.

About the team

Amazon Logistics, or AMZL, handles last mile delivery duties in partnership with third-party distribution businesses. We focus on operations with 24/7 shifts in most locations. Our two sides: the “under the roof” associates who process products for dispatch, and the “on the road” team working with Amazon Flex delivery contractors. We continuously seek new ideas to improve customer experience and reduce our carbon footprint, supported by a portfolio of advanced vehicles and technology.

Qualifications
  • 1+ years of employee and performance management experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, or 2+ years of Amazon (blue badge/FTE) experience
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule/shift/work area, including weekends, nights, and/or holidays
  • Ability to push and pull wheeled dollies loaded with products up to 100 pounds during shifts
  • Spanish and English advanced proficiency
  • 1+ years of experience with performance metrics, process improvement or lean techniques
