Fountain is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join a global engineering team building scalable web applications for frontline workforce management. You will design, develop, and own features across frontend and backend, collaborating with designers, product managers, and other engineers in a fast-paced environment.

You will work with Ruby on Rails, React, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL to deliver reliable APIs and data models, while focusing on performance, security, and a superior user

• 7+ years of experience in full stack software engineering.

As a Senior Software Engineer at Fountain, you will collaborate with a diverse team of engineers, designers, and product managers to create user‑centered web applications that empower organizations to improve employee retention.

To succeed in this position, it is important to have a proven track record of working with rich enterprise products and possess strong problem‑solving skills, and a solid technical background in frontend/backend development, relational modeling, API interfaces, scalability, and architecture.

The Fountain Engineering team is organized into product squads, each responsible for independently owning the product's health and market fit. The teams are the domain experts of their products, and are always looking to improve their operation.

We are a rapidly growing team that operates with agility and speed. You will be expected to find creative solutions even when faced with uncertainty, and you will have the freedom to do so. You will operate with autonomy on an established legacy codebase, balancing speed with attention-to-detail. Automated testing and product quality are paramount.

This role requires collaboration within a globally distributed organization, spanning different time zones, continents, and cultures (including Western and Northern Europe, USA, South Africa, Mexico, and more).

What you’ll be doing:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain product features and enhancements
• Collaborating closely with product and design teams to bring features to life
• Review and collaborate with other developers' work
• Implement RESTful API endpoints, build new functionality in our Ruby on Rails backend codebase, build upon our PostgreSQL model.
• Ensure the quality, reliability, operations, and security of all our products
• Identifying and addressing performance bottlenecks and optimizing applications for maximum speed, scalability and ease of use.
• Staying up-to-date with industry trends and continuously seeking opportunities to enhance the user experience.

What you should bring:

• 7+ years of experience in full stack software engineering
• Proven experience in product-oriented software development.
• Proficiency in modern technologies, including but not limited to:
• Ruby on Rails, React, TypeScript, PostgreSQL (must have)
• MongoDB, Express, TailwindCSS (nice to have)
• Testing Suite - Jest, RSpec
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically about user interactions and system architecture.
• Ability to work independently and confidently, even in dynamic situations and with limited information
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English, to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders.

Nice to Have:

• Experience in B2B SaaS startup environments and remote international settings is strongly preferred
• Familiarity with coding agents, automated code reviews, and agentic skills and tooling
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures, serverless architectures, high volume architectures, API strategies, MongoDB, AWS, micro-services, web security, and Agile methods is highly desirable
• Experience working in an Agile development environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams
• Past positions in startups and international contexts will be appreciated.
