Mastercard is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead end-to-end software delivery for payments platforms. You will design, build, and optimize scalable applications using Java, Spring, Angular, and RESTful APIs, while mentoring teammates and shaping best practices.

You will work with product owners and engineers to refine requirements, assess non‑functional needs, and implement secure, reliable solutions in a fast‑paced, regulated environment.

Formación

• 5+ years of software engineering experience in payments, financial services, or regulated industries.
• Strong hands-on with Java, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, JPA, Angular, and SQL databases.
• Experience with secure software development practices (OWASP, CWE, SEI CERT).
• Experience designing, developing, and consuming RESTful APIs with governance and standards.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools and architecture (GitFlow, Jenkins, GitHub Actions).

Overview

Overview In addition to our traditional payments’ portfolio, Mastercard is aggressively expanding into new payment flow and leveraging the digital and connected world of people and economies to deliver faster, reliable, and more efficient propositions to make payments – send or receive money. The Cross Border program is part of the wider Disbursement & Remittances business that we are looking to expand at a compounded rate of 50% per year for the next 5 years. We are building solutions to enable payments in an any-to-any format – anyone, anywhere can send or receive money using any channel – money exchanges, banks, digital wallets, cards or fintech apps – providing a seamless and unified experience for both individuals and business to move money. We are looking for a passionate, innovative and experienced engineers with a proven track record in leading the evolution of software products and their implementation in various markets – comfortable both working hands‑on as well as guiding and mentoring a team of engineers and critically always challenging the status quo and pushing and driving the technology roadmap to ensure that the solutions leverage technology to the maximum extent.

Role

• Responsible for the analysis, design, development, and delivery of software solutions
• Defines requirements for new applications and customizations, adhering to standards, processes, and best practices
• Participate in team prioritization discussions with Product/Business stakeholders
• Estimate and own delivery tasks (design, dev, test, deployment, configuration, documentation) to meet the business requirements
• Automate build, operate, and run aspects of software
• Drive code/design/process trade‑off discussions within their team when required
• Report status and manage risks within their primary application/service
• Drive integration of services focusing on customer journey and experience
• Perform demos/acceptance discussions in interacting with Product owners
• Understands operational and engineering experience and actively works to improve experience and metrics in the ownership area
• Develop a complete understanding of end-to-end technical architecture and dependency systems
• Drive adoption of technology standards and opinionated frameworks, and review coding, test, and automation work of team members
• Mentor and guide new and less‑experienced team members
• Identify opportunities to improve an overall process and trim waste
• Share and seek knowledge within their Guild/Program to drive reuse and productivity

About You

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, preferably within the payments, financial services, or highly regulated industries.
• Strong hands‑on experience developing scalable, secure, and maintainable applications using Java, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, JPA, Angular, and SQL databases.
• Solid understanding of secure software development practices, including familiarity with industry standards such as OWASP, CWE, and SEI CERT, as well as vulnerability management and remediation.
• Knowledge of core engineering principles required to build and support mission‑critical applications, including security, reliability, performance, observability, customer experience, and service-oriented architectures.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex application issues through debugging, root cause analysis, and performance tuning, including analysis of thread, heap, and memory dumps.
• Experience leveraging AI‑assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity, code quality, and software delivery outcomes.
• Strong understanding of source control, branching strategies (e.g., GitFlow), and peer review practices to ensure high‑quality code and effective team collaboration.
• Hands‑on experience applying Test‑Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior‑Driven Development (BDD) methodologies to deliver reliable, maintainable, and well‑tested software.
• Knowledge of object‑oriented design principles and common architectural and design patterns, including MVC, Dependency Injection, API Gateway, Intercepting Filter, Lazy Loading, and distributed system patterns.
• Experience designing, developing, and consuming RESTful APIs while following API governance, documentation, and standardization best practices.
• Strong understanding of modern testing strategies, including unit, integration, contract, regression, and performance testing, with practical application of the Test Pyramid methodology.
• Experience using code quality and security tools such as SonarQube, Checkmarx, Zally, or similar solutions to identify code defects, vulnerabilities, and architectural anti‑patterns.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, product owners, and business stakeholders to refine requirements, estimate work, and prioritize deliverables based on business value.
• Experience defining and estimating non‑functional requirements, including performance, scalability, security, regulatory compliance, availability, and service‑level objectives.
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices and automated deployment pipelines using industry‑standard tools such as Jenkins, XL Release, GitHub Actions, or similar platforms.
• Ability to analyze engineering and delivery metrics, including velocity, throughput, lead time, defect leakage, and cycle time, to drive continuous improvement.
• Experience contributing to Definition of Done standards, technical documentation, and software delivery best practices.
• Strong understanding of release validation, deployment verification, regression testing, and production readiness processes to minimize defect leakage.
• Ability to support product demonstrations, stakeholder reviews, and successful delivery of business outcomes.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced Agile environment.
