Job summary

EarnIn is seeking a senior software engineer to own always-on money movement services in a hybrid role based in Mexico City. You’ll design, build, test, and operate backend services that move billions of dollars and rely on real-time and scheduled transfers across multiple rails.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting live, production services and on-call incident handling.
• 4+ years delivering software in a collaborative environment.
• Experience in micro-service architectures.
• Proficient with monitoring observability tools (e.g., Datadog) and improving service reliability.
• Hands-on with AI coding/productivity tools in daily engineering work.
• Proficient in at least one modern language (C# currently) and able to learn more.
• Hands-on with SQL databases.
• Experience with CI/CD tools.
• Experience writing functional/integration tests.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, especially during incidents.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently.
• Experience with financial systems, payments, or ledgers.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement new features; break down complex problems into elegant designs.
• Own service health: on-call rotation, incident response, blameless postmortems.

• Improve reliability with monitoring, dashboards, and runbooks.
• Debug production issues across multiple stack levels.

POSITION SUMMARY

Money Movement systems are business-critical components of EarnIn’s success. We provide millions of customers with access to their money across a variety of payment rails, including debit, RTP, and more, moving billions of dollars annually. Our systems support real-time and scheduled transfers, and let us track outcomes, reconcile discrepancies, and respond to returns, chargebacks, and other events. Because these live services move real money around the clock, reliability matters as much as features. We seek experienced, collaborative, and resourceful senior engineers who have owned always-on production services and take pride in keeping them healthy. As a senior engineer, you will work cross-functionally and contribute to the design, development, and operation of our backend services. At EarnIn, working with AI is expected, not optional. We use AI tools every day to design, build, test, and operate our systems, and we expect our engineers to do the same.

This position will ideally be hybrid at our Mexico City office as part of our expanding site, though remote work is possible. WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Drive the design and implementation of new features. Break down complex problems to their essentials, translate that complexity into elegant design, and write high-quality, maintainable code.
• Own the health of the services you build: participate in the team’s on‑call rotation, respond to alerts and incidents, and drive them through resolution and blameless postmortems.
• Use AI tools in your daily workflow, from design and coding to testing, debugging, and incident response, and help raise the bar for how our team uses AI while staying accountable for the quality and safety of what ships.
• Improve reliability and observability by building monitoring, alerting, dashboards, and runbooks that help us detect and resolve issues before our community feels them.
• Debug production issues across our services infrastructure and multiple levels of our stack.
• Design and deliver robust micro‑service integrations via REST/​gRPC APIs and messaging patterns (events/queues).
• Create and maintain test automation to enable continuous integration and development velocity.
• Collaborate with and mentor other engineers through code, design, and architecture reviews, including coaching teammates on operational readiness.
• Work cross‑functionally with data science, design, product, finance, accounting, and analytics.
• Work with distributed systems and care passionately about producing high‑quality code.
• Make a meaningful impact on the lives of our community members.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• Proven experience supporting live, production services, including participating in an on‑call rotation and responding to incidents under pressure.
• 4+ years of delivering value through software in a collaborative environment.
• Experience working in micro‑service architectures is required.
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Datadog) and a track record of improving service reliability, such as better alerting, faster recovery, or fewer repeat incidents.
• Hands‑on experience using AI coding and productivity tools in your day‑to‑day engineering work, with good judgment about when to trust their output and when to verify it.
• Proficient in at least one modern programming language and able to understand more than one; we currently work in C#.
• Hands‑on experience working with SQL databases.
• Experience with continuous integration and delivery tools.
• Experienced in developing and executing functional and integration tests.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including clear communication during incidents.
• Self‑motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Experience with financial systems, payments, or ledgers, where correctness and auditability are a plus
