Job summary

Helpware Inc. is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to architect and operate a cloud-first platform across AWS and Azure, establishing an internal developer platform with golden paths and a world-class observability program.

You will own CI/CD and Kubernetes operations, implement policy-as-code, and drive FinOps and security by design. You will build reusable Terraform modules and Backstage-based developer tooling, while mentoring engineers and defining SRE practices from the ground up.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in platform, infrastructure, or DevOps with production ownership on AWS and/or Azure.
• Deep OpenTofu/Terraform proficiency: module authoring, state management, remote backends, and CI/CD integration; Terramate a plus.
• Kubernetes: strong operations for EKS/AKS, Helm, RBAC, network policies, and autoscaling.
• Observability/SRE: hands-on with two or more of Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Tempo, Datadog, OpenTelemetry; define SLI/SLO.
• CI/CD: GitHub Actions pipeline authoring, reusable workflows, and container build/scan ownership.
• GitOps: ArgoCD or Flux for Kubernetes CD; canary/blue-green seen as plus.
• IDP: Backstage or equivalent developer portal, scaffolding templates, service catalog, self-service tooling.
• Security: policy-as-code, IaC scanning, secrets management, container hardening.
• Strong communication and documentation skills; able to present decisions to peers and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Cloud Modernization: rearchitect and codify AWS/Azure; migrate to OpenTofu/Terraform and Ansible.
• Audit cloud estate against AWS/Azure Well-Architected Frameworks; build remediation backlog.
• Implement policy-as-code to enforce security and compliance at platform layer.
• Build reusable Terraform modules for compute, networking, storage, DB, and identity.
• Define FinOps standards: tagging taxonomy, cost dashboards, and rightsizing across clouds.
• SRE & Observability: design observability stack and dashboards; define SLIs/SLOs.
• Establish SRE from scratch: incident runbooks, post-incident reviews, chaos exercises.
• Internal Developer Platform: deploy Backstage-based portal; maintain golden paths for dev workflows.
• Own the CI/CD platform layer and Kubernetes platform operations; security scanning built-in.
• Measure adoption and iterate golden paths based on feedback.
• Cross-cutting: embed security by default; contribute ADRs and runbooks.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in architecture reviews.
