Jobtailor in Mexico City is seeking an experienced backend engineer to lead AI-powered retrieval systems and scalable APIs. You will design multi-modal search workflows, orchestrate LLMs, and collaborate with a global newsroom technology team to modernize content platforms.

The role requires 7+ years in backend or distributed systems, strong Node.js/TypeScript skills, and experience with LangChain and cloud services. Join a fast-paced team delivering production-grade AI solutions across regions.

Formación

• 7+ years in backend or distributed systems engineering.
• Strong Node.js, TypeScript and Express.js skills.
• At least basic Python.
• Hands-on experience with AI orchestration frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph or OpenAI AgentKit.
• Experience with prompt engineering, fine-tuning and RAG architectures.
• Docker and CI/CD pipeline experience, including CircleCI.
• Infrastructure as code experience with Terraform.
• Experience designing scalable APIs and microservices for complex data systems.
• Deep understanding of AWS or another major cloud provider; Google Cloud preferred by the client.
• Strong communication skills and experience collaborating across multiple engineering teams.
• Media, publishing or newsroom technology experience, especially large-scale content or digital journalism environments (nice to have).
• Familiarity with legacy systems such as PHP and migration work (nice to have).
• Startup or fast-paced product experience, including go-to-market exposure (nice to have).
• Experience with globally distributed teams across time zones (nice to have).

Responsabilidades

• Build intelligent retrieval and reasoning on top of a very large archive of journalism.
• Design and build AI-powered search and discovery experiences using multi-modal retrieval and agentic workflows.
• Develop Python-based AI systems and scalable Node.js services delivering production-grade APIs.
• Orchestrate LLMs with LangChain.
• Implement retrieval augmented generation grounded in trusted news content.
• Support model fine-tuning in Python.
• Implement observability across the AI stack.
• Act as the interface between the European backend team and stakeholders in the US, UK and Australia.
• Work as part of a newsroom transformation team supporting a global media and information services company.
