Amentum seeks a Safety Inspector to support a US Navy program on Diego Garcia. You will develop and enforce a safety program, conduct inspections, and document findings to ensure compliance with safety standards and site-specific requirements.

You will investigate incidents, prepare detailed reports, and provide guidance to personnel on safety practices, while coordinating with leadership and contractors to meet safety objectives on a remote overseas assignment.

Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the US government, allies, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking aSafety Inspectorto support a unique US Navy program based on the island of Diego Garcia.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Developing and implementing a Safety Program that complies with theU.S. Army Corps of Engineers Safety and Health Requirements Manual.
  • Conducting regularsafety inspections and monitoringto assess compliance with safety standards, operational protocols, and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Preparing and maintaining detailedSafety Inspection and Monitoring Reportsto document observations, findings, and corrective actions.
  • Investigating incidents, preparing accurate and detailedincident reports, and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Reviewing, modifying, adding, or deletingsafety records for an assetas required to ensure accurate documentation and compliance.
  • Conducting risk assessments, identifying hazards, and implementing risk mitigation strategies to protect personnel and property.
  • Monitoring work sites to ensure all safety measures and equipment are in use and functioning correctly.
  • Providing guidance, training, and support to site personnel to promote safety awareness and adherence to safety procedures.
  • Ensuring all safety-related documentation and records are maintained accurately and timely in compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Coordinating with leadership, supervisors, and contractors to ensure safety goals align with operational objectives.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven experience in safety inspection, program implementation, or a related role, preferably in a government or military environment.
  • Familiarity with theU.S. Army Corps of Engineers Safety and Health Requirements Manualand other applicable safety standards.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain comprehensive safety reports, incident records, and asset safety documentation.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of hazard identification, risk assessments, and corrective action development.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills, with attention to detail in all safety documentation.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications and safety-related record-keeping software.
  • Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
  • Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
  • Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance requirements for the duration of deployment.

Employees must read, speak, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.

Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.

Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout the duration of deployment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Certifications such asOSHA 30-Hour Construction SafetyorCertified Safety Professional (CSP).
  • Prior experience working in austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environments with multi-national workforces.
  • Strong training and presentation skills, with experience in conducting safety awareness initiatives.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.

Working Environment

This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.

Physical Requirements

Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
