Job summary

Jobgether is seeking an Ubuntu Security Engineer to join a globally distributed security team, focusing on vulnerabilities across Ubuntu packages and open source projects. Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of common software security vulnerabilities and attack techniques.
• Experience with open source development workflows and tools.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language among C, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, PHP, JavaScript, or TypeScript.

Responsibilities

• Analyse, investigate, fix, and test vulnerabilities affecting open source packages within the Ubuntu ecosystem.
• Monitor and track vulnerabilities as they are discovered, patched, and released using internal security tools.
• Collaborate with internal engineering teams, upstream developers, and the open source community to develop and validate security patches.
• Audit source code and software components to identify security weaknesses and vulnerabilities.
• Assess security risks and contribute to remediation prioritisation based on impact and urgency.
• Design and develop features and tools to help engineering teams improve security.
• Document findings, remediation activities, and technical information clearly.
• Contribute to security initiatives across the wider open source ecosystem.
• Work within a globally distributed team with autonomy.
