Job summary

Sonoco in Mexico City is seeking a Material Handler to safely and efficiently operate heavy machinery and manage material flow on the production floor. You will strap pallets, inspect materials, document floor activities, and support production flow under supervision.

Candidates should have prior raw material handling experience in manufacturing and forklift driving, with the ability to work with minimal supervision, lead peers when needed, and mentor a subordinate team.

Qualifications

• Experience handling raw materials in a manufacturing setting.
• Previous experience as a Forklift Driver.
• Ability to lead, coach and mentor a team.

Responsibilities

• Strap pallets using 2-way or 4-way straps and appropriate dunnage.
• Perform quality inspection against specs with measuring tape.
• Ensure floor documentation is complete and filed.
• Move strips and finished goods to support production flow.
• Operate wrapping equipment and replace rolls as needed.
• Support loading trucks with buddy checks and safe handling.
• Inspect incoming boards/rolls for flute/caliper and PO matching.
• Assist with miscellaneous tasks and general labor as assigned.

While reporting to the Shift Supervisor, as a Material Handler you will be responsible for the safe and precise operation of heavy machinery and material handling.

What You'll Be Doing:

• Strap pallets: 2 way or 4 way depending on the costumer location, using the right dunnage. Using strapping gun and ergo machine.
• Quality inspection- Be able to check specs on sample provided using measuring tape.
• Make sure that all documentation from the floor is completed and in the plastic envelope.
• Move strips and finished goods to help with the flow of production.
• Use the wrapping machine and replace wrapping roll.
• Strap pallets using conventional way, hand wrapping if needed.
• Use the buddy check system to assist when loading trucks.
• Inspect incoming board/rolls and make sure flute/caliper and sizes match purchase order.
• Help with miscellaneous assignments and general labor.
• Perform tasks as assigned by supervision.

• You have previous experience handling raw materials in a manufacturing setting and previous experience as a Forklift Driver.
• Can safely handle all products and materials.
• Can perform work under minimal supervision and handle complex issues and problems and refer only the most complex issues to higher-level staff.
• Possess comprehensive knowledge of subject matter.
• Can act as a lead and provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group.
