Role Overview
The English Coordinator for PYP plays a key leadership role in shaping language instruction across the Primary Years Programme. This position combines pedagogical guidance, curriculum alignment, and team support to ensure high-quality English teaching that reflects IB philosophy and meets the needs of our multilingual learners.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development, implementation, and review of the English curriculum in alignment with IB PYP standards and practices
- Support and mentor English teachers through collaborative planning, observation, feedback, and professional development
- Ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of language learning goals across grade levels
- Promote inquiry-based, transdisciplinary approaches to language instruction
- Collaborate with the PYP Leader and other subject leaders to integrate English across units of inquiry
- Monitor student progress and support differentiated instruction for diverse language profiles
- Contribute to school-wide literacy initiatives and language policy development
- Participate in recruitment, onboarding, and evaluation of English teaching staff
- Maintain clear, respectful communication with families and staff in a bilingual context
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Linguistics, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- Teaching certification and minimum 3 years of experience in primary education
- Proven experience with the IB PYP framework and inquiry-based learning
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and curriculum development skills
- Native or near-native English proficiency; Spanish is an asset
- Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills
