GE Vernova seeks a Protection & Control Engineer to design and verify protection schemes for T&D substations, data centers, industrial, and BESS applications. You will prepare one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, and control schematics in collaboration with drafters and peer engineers.

You will coordinate with electrical layout engineers, relay setting engineers, site managers, and commissioning personnel while reviewing vendor documentation and performing key design calculations.

Formación

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English with strong presentation skills.
  • Familiarity with IEC 61850 process and system bus architecture for substations.

Responsabilidades

  • Develop high-quality design for protection schemes for T&D substations, data centers, industrial, and BESS applications.
  • Provide peer review for design team members (SLD, 3-line diagrams, panels, schematics).
  • Develop P&C drawings such as one-line protection and metering diagrams, relay coordination, and alarm schematics.
  • Coordinate P&C design with layout engineers, relay setting engineers, site managers, and commissioning teams.
  • Review technical documentation from vendors and manufacturers related to P&C design.
  • Communicate with Project Engineering Manager or P&C lead to resolve technical issues.
  • Perform DC battery and charger sizing calculations and voltage drop calculations.
  • Create and support FAT and SAT procedures for P&C deliverables.
  • Participate in engineering and constructability reviews of P&C deliverables.
  • Contribute to improvements in design procedures and quality.

Job Description Summary

The Protection & Control Engineer works on T&D substations for AC, HVDC and FACTS projects with designers, peer engineers & leaders. The P&C engineer is part of a team responsible for the design of HV / EHV substation protection & control design under the supervision of the Project P&C Lead Engineer or Project Engineering Manager. The P&C engineer should pay great attention to detail and maintain tasks deadlines with a can-do attitude & customer responsiveness. The P&C engineer shall continuously update themselves with new technology and have a mindset of continuous learning, consistent with grid transition needs. Functions with some autonomy but guided by established policies and the project engineering lead.

Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Develop high quality design for protection schemes for all kinds of T&D substations, Data Centers, Industrial, BESS applications including one-lines, three-lines, and AC / DC schematics in collaboration with drafters.
  • Provide peer review for other members of the design team to develop P&C designs (protection single line diagram, 3 Line Diagrams, panel general arrangement and schematics, wiring diagrams)
  • Able to work / develop some of the following P&C drawings: one line protection and metering diagrams, tripping tables/matrix, logic diagrams, Aux power DC and AC one-line diagrams, relay protection and control schematics, metering, monitoring and alarm schematics. Develop optimized designs with a safety mindset.
  • Coordinate P&C design with Electrical layout engineers and designers, Relay Setting Engineers, site managers, commissioning engineers and field personnel
  • Coordinate with vendors and manufacturers and review technical documentation related to P&C design
  • Communicate with Project Engineering Manager or Project P&C lead to resolve technical engineering and design aspects.
  • Perform applicable design calculations required for DC battery and charger sizing, voltage drop calculations, aux AC power design.
  • Create and support development of FAT and SAT procedures.
  • Participate in engineering and constructability reviews of P&C deliverables of own project.
  • Be an active participant and contributor to improvements in design procedures and quality by providing a fresh perspective.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college.
Desired Characteristics
  • Fluent in written and spoken English. Demonstrated presentation skills
  • Familiarity with IEC 61850 process and system bus architecture and its implementation for substations
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a team environment
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Knowledge of power system analysis software such as ETAP, Aspen Oneliner for relay coordination, load flows, short circuit and arc flash studies.
  • Familiarity with NERC-CIP standards and guidelines for Cyber Security, Grid Interconnection
  • Experience in technical problem solving
