The Project Design Engineer - Electrical Engineer will be responsible for providing engineering expertise, energy, and execution of such tasks as: engineering design, prototyping, product testing and validation, project management, project costs, working with suppliers on quotes, interacting with customers, and taking opportunities from concept through product launch of sensors for the industrial, automotive, and electric vehicle markets. Depending on the candidate’s experience and qualifications, this resource could become a lead design engineer, leading and guiding other engineers on various sensor projects.

More specifically, the project design engineer will focus on gas sensors for detecting carbon dioxide, hydrogen, refrigerants, and more. The engineer will develop sensor specific schematics, layouts, test and validate hardware, and leverage an internal product development methodology from project kickoff to start of production.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Design execution from project kickoff to start of production
• Engineering design that includes developing product requirements, creating prototype samples, mitigating risks, testing, developing new product cost estimates
• Project management of simultaneous projects
• Collaboration with suppliers to support project deliverables and timing.
• Develop robust engineering solutions, which solve customer problems, by collaborating with engineering peers, testing prototypes, and mitigating risks through design reviews and FMEA’s.
• Develop engineer-to-engineer relationships with customers to drive deeper discussions on given projects and opportunities.
• Work with manufacturing to successfully launch new products, to drive cost out projects and collaborate on process equipment/tooling requirements.
• Understand Gantt charts, commitments, and timeliness. Mitigate risks as they are identified.
• As required, engage in root cause analysis and implementation of corrective action.

Qualifications / Requirements

1. Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (minimum), a plus to have 7 years’ experience in the automotive/battery/electric vehicle sensor/product environment
2. Ability to fluently speak and write in the English language.
3. Skilled at writing reports
4. Skilled at public speaking in front of customers and other employees
5. Skilled with laboratory equipment/tools to support engineering development, testing, and validation.
6. Skilled with circuit design, schematic layout and working with contract manufacturers on design for manufacturability for PCBA’s.
7. Skilled with the design and execution of design-of-experiments
8. Skilled with the execution of product validation testing
9. Ability to travel domestically and internationally when required
