Job summary

Adient plc in Queretaro is seeking an engineer to create layout, detail and assembly drawings using customer drawings to avoid packaging or interference issues. The role applies best practices in design including GD&T, FEA, DFMEA and DVP, with strong emphasis on robust design changes for high-quality prototypes and on-time data release.

The position requires 2–3 years in engineering, travel within Mexico and to the US, and active support for root cause analysis and supplier collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Creates layout, detail and assembly drawings using customer environment drawings to prevent packaging or interference issues.
• Applies best practices in design including drawing standards, FEA, GD&T, root cause analysis, DVP/DFMEA, hand calculations and use of carry-over and CPP technology.
• Executes robust design changes to ensure high quality prototype parts and timely release of design data for testing and customer use.
• Supports root cause analysis to resolve test failures and flags potential safety concerns.
• Provides test specifications and reviews setup for product testing in assigned area of design responsibility.
• Supports generation of DFMEAs prior to prototype tooling release.
• Develops technical solutions aligned with cost, performance, timing and weight targets.
• Provides technical support to suppliers in product development and drawing creation.
• Performs design studies or tolerance stack-ups to ensure high-quality assembly and performance.
• Uses appropriate tools/technology to address program/product issues and stays current with advancing technology.
• Writes change documentation (CAs, IRs, or DAs) for customer or internal changes or issues.
• Ensures accurate input of design changes and drawings into the system.
• Delivers marked-up drawings or CAD models to facilitate costing and quoting.
• Maintains accurate bill of materials in the product data management system.

General Responsibilities

1. Applies best practices in creating layout drawings, detail drawings and assembly drawings. Uses customer's environment drawings to ensure no packaging or interference problems exist in the drawings/data.
2. Applies best practices in design and engineering. This can include but is not limited to PDfSS, drawing standards, FEA, GD&T, root cause analysis, DVP, DFMEA, hand calculations and use of carry-over and CPP technology.
3. Executes robust design/design changes to provide the highest quality in the build and assembly of prototype parts with agreed to process. Ensures design data is released on-time to support highest quality assemblies for testing and the customer.
4. Supports root cause analysis in the resolution of test failures. Informs any potential safety concern.
5. Provides test specifications and reviews set up for product testing in assigned area of design responsibility.
6. Supports generation of DFMEAs prior to release of prototype tooling.
7. Develops technical solutions that support business objectives (cost, performance, timing, weight, and investment).
8. Technically supports suppliers in product development and drawing creation.
9. Performs design studies or tolerance stack-ups to ensure highest quality product assembly and performance.
10. Executes best practices and early detection for BSR.
11. Uses the right tool/technology for providing technical solution to program/product issues.
12. Is aware of advancing technology and implements as appropriate.
13. Writes CAs, IRs or DAs to properly document customer or internal initiated changes or issues.
14. Provides input to support personnel to ensure accurate input of design change records and drawings.
15. Provides marked up drawings or CAD models through designers to facilitate accurate costing and quoting exercises.
16. Maintains accurate bill of materials through product data management system and support personnel.
