Job description

We are seeking an Investment Casting Engineer to develop, qualify, and improve casting processes for aerospace turbine blades and vanes. This role will focus on producing complex airfoil components that meet demanding dimensional, metallurgical, and quality requirements. The engineer will lead casting process development, troubleshoot defects, and improve manufacturing yield and repeatability. Working closely with tooling, ceramic core, shell, metallurgy, and quality teams, the engineer will support components from initial development through production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and optimize investment casting processes for solid and hollow turbine blades and vanes.
  • Design and validate gating, feeding, and casting configurations to achieve consistent filling and controlled solidification.
  • Establish process parameters for mold preheating, metal preparation, pouring, and cooling.
  • Use casting simulation and experimental trials to evaluate filling behavior, thermal conditions, and defect risks.
  • Collaborate with wax tooling, ceramic core, and shell teams to ensure compatibility with casting requirements.
  • Evaluate ceramic core positioning, wall thickness, and internal cooling passage integrity in hollow components.
  • Investigate defects such as shrinkage porosity, inclusions, misruns, hot tears, and unacceptable grain structures.
  • Review dimensional inspection, nondestructive testing, and metallurgical results to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with metallurgy and downstream manufacturing teams on heat treatment, finishing, and their effects on component quality.
  • Lead process qualification, establish manufacturing instructions and controls, and support the transition into production.
  • Improve casting yield, process stability, cycle time, and manufacturing cost.
  • Maintain process documentation, trial records, traceability, and engineering change control.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Hands‑on experience in investment casting process development or production engineering for turbine components or similarly complex precision castings.
  • Strong understanding of metal flow, heat transfer, solidification, gating, feeding, and casting defect formation.
  • Knowledge of nickel-based superalloys and their casting and metallurgical requirements.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, dimensional tolerances, and material specifications.
  • Experience planning trials, analyzing manufacturing data, and conducting root-cause investigations.
  • Ability to collaborate across manufacturing, metallurgy, design, and quality teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct experience casting aerospace turbine blades and vanes, particularly hollow airfoils with internal cooling passages.
  • Experience with vacuum investment casting and equiaxed, directionally solidified, or single‑crystal casting processes.
  • Proficiency with casting simulation software such as ProCAST or MAGMASOFT.
  • Experience with ceramic cores, shell systems, and their influence on casting quality.
  • Familiarity with grain structure evaluation, metallography, radiographic inspection, and penetrant inspection.
  • Experience qualifying aerospace casting processes and supporting customer technical reviews.
  • A demonstrated record of improving casting yield and resolving recurring dimensional or metallurgical defects.
