Job summary

Phillips Connect in Saltillo, Mexico is seeking a Firmware Test Engineer to design and automate tests for embedded firmware across our hardware platforms. You'll work with Firmware, Hardware, QA and Production teams in Mexico and the U.S., and you will help take products from the lab to production.

You will set up lab equipment, build Python test frameworks, run functional and stress tests, track defects in Jira, and contribute to test strategy to improve product quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• 3+ years in firmware testing, embedded systems, or software test engineering.
• Hands-on testing of microcontroller-based embedded systems.
• Solid Python skills for test automation and familiarity with CI/CD.

Responsibilities

• Plan and run tests from product requirements, including functional, integration, regression and stress tests.
• Automate tests with Python and integrate into CI/CD (Jenkins).
• Hunt down defects by reproducing, logging, and tracking issues in Jira.
• Set up and maintain dev boards, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, GPS, and cellular devices for lab testing.
• Support production byTroubleshooting firmware issues and updating test procedures.
• Participate in design reviews to improve testability and product quality.

Job description

At Phillips Connect, our telematics products keep commercial fleets connected, safe, and efficient. As a Firmware Test Engineer , you'll make sure the firmware behind those products is rock-solid before it reaches the road. You'll design and automate tests, track down tough bugs, and help take products from the lab to production. You'll work closely with Firmware, Hardware, QA, and Production teams in Mexico and the U.S. This is a hands-on role for an engineer who enjoys breaking things on purpose, figuring out why they broke, and building automation so it never happens again.

What You'll Be Doing

• Plan and run tests. Turn product requirements into test plans and cases, then run functional, integration, regression, and stress tests across our hardware platforms.
• Automate. Build and maintain Python test frameworks and integrate them into our CI/CD pipeline (Jenkins).
• Hunt down defects. Reproduce, log, and track issues in Jira, analyze logs and signals to find root causes, and verify fixes with the firmware and hardware engineers.
• Run the lab. Set up and maintain dev boards, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, GPS, and cellular devices, and use scopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG/SWD debuggers.
• Support production. Troubleshoot firmware issues on the manufacturing floor and keep production test procedures up to date.
• Make things better. Join design reviews, give feedback on testability, and suggest ways to improve our test strategy and product quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, or Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
• 3+ years in firmware testing, embedded systems, or software test engineering
• Hands-on experience testing microcontroller-based embedded systems
• Solid Python skills for test automation
• Experience with Git, Jira, and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins
• Comfort with lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, debuggers, multimeters, power supplies, and UART tools
• Working knowledge of TCP/IP and UDP
• Strong troubleshooting and communication skills
• Working proficiency in English for day-to-day collaboration with U.S. teams

Nice to have

• C/C++ in embedded environments
• Experience with telematics, IoT, GPS, or cellular devices
• Background in production or manufacturing test
• Familiarity with IATF 16949 or other automotive quality standards
