Job summary

Carrier is seeking an Embedded Java Software Developer to design, develop, and maintain Java-based firmware for embedded systems. You will work across planning, implementation, testing, and deployment to ensure performance and reliability.

You will collaborate with hardware teams, apply TDD, and help sustain legacy firmware while exploring new technologies for power management and low-level driver interaction. This role is based in Mexico with on-site work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or Electrical Engineering
• 3-5 years of hands-on experience in embedded systems and Java

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Java-based embedded firmware solutions using Agile methodologies.
• Write and maintain Java firmware that interacts with low-level hardware components (sensors, actuators, protocols).
• Participate in project planning by investigating solutions and providing estimates.
• Collaborate with hardware/systems engineering to ensure firmware–hardware integration.
• Ensure firmware meets timing and performance requirements.
• Apply test-driven development (TDD) to write unit/functional tests.
• Debug hardware/firmware interaction issues with diagnostic tools.
• Sustain and upgrade legacy embedded firmware and provide product expertise.
• Explore new technologies for power management, memory optimization, and driver interaction.
• Maintain documentation for firmware development and troubleshooting guides.
