Descripción del empleo

Position Overview

We are seeking a Mid-Level Design & Release Engineer (DRE) specializing in Body Closures to drive the engineering development, integration, and release of both static structural closures and dynamic moving closure mechanisms. In this hybrid role, you will be responsible for managing end-to-end component lifecycle execution from initial 3D CAD surface packaging to final manufacturing launch. You will collaborate directly with OEM design teams, CAE analysts, quality engineers, and Tier-1 suppliers to ensure closure assemblies satisfy structural rigidity, sealing, durability, ergonomic, and crash performance requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Component Design & Release: Lead the design, packaging, release, and life-cycle management (DCN/ECN) for dynamic closures (doors, hood, liftgate/tailgate, trunk) and static structural closure systems.
  • Mechanism & Sealing Integration: Engineer functional moving systems, including hinges, latches, strikers, check arms, power closing actuators, side-impact beams, and weather-strip sealing interfaces.
  • 3D CAD & Clearance Analysis: Perform packaging studies, door-swing kinematically guided clearance checks, dynamic seal-compression modeling, and surface alignment evaluations in Siemens NX or CATIA V5/3DEXPERIENCE.
  • Engineering Quality & Stack-ups: Establish GD&T standards, tolerance stack-up analyses (datum schemes, flush & gap requirements), DFMEAs, and complete Bill of Materials (BOM) management.
  • Validation & Testing: Support CAE structural analysis (modal, fatigue, latch durability, water-leakage testing) and physical vehicle prototype testing to resolve fitment or functionality issues.
  • Supplier & Cross-Functional Coordination: Manage Tier-1 closure suppliers and collaborate with Stamping, Tooling, BIW Assembly, and Quality teams to guarantee Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) feasibility.
Key Competencies
  • Closures Engineering Expertise: Knowledge of sheet metal stamping (steel/aluminum), composite panels, dynamic door/hood mechanisms, latching mechanics, and sealing systems.
  • Kinematics & Clearance Packaging: Expertise in evaluating moving body parts, dynamic seal compression, anti-pinch geometry, and flush/gap tolerance compliance.
  • Engineering Change & Lifecycle Control: Proficient in managing Design Change Notices (DCN/ECN), BOM structure integrity, and PLM workflows.
  • Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T): Skilled in applying advanced GD&T, datum coordination schemes, and 3D stack-ups for sheet metal and hardware assemblies.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Strong communication skills to liaise between OEM design studios, CAE teams, manufacturing plants, and external suppliers.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and solve shop-floor fitment, operational bind, or seal-leakage issues using 8D or Ishikawa methodologies.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Mechatronics, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Experience: 3+ to 5 years of experience as a Design & Release Engineer (DRE) or Product Engineer focused on automotive closures or BIW systems.
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced command of 3D CAD platforms (Siemens NX, CATIA V5, or 3DEXPERIENCE) and enterprise PLM tools (Teamcenter or Enovia).
  • Manufacturing Understanding: Familiarity with sheet metal stamping, hem-flange joining, resistance spot welding, structural adhesives, and hardware assembly line integration.
  • Languages: Professional business proficiency in English and Spanish (written and verbal) for daily interaction with global engineering centers.
