Sovos is a global leader in tax compliance, delivering cloud-based solutions to thousands of customers. We are seeking a Senior Database Administrator to own performance, security, and availability of enterprise databases across multiple platforms for our SaaS applications.

The role involves hands-on leadership, mentoring junior DBAs, and partnering with engineering to ensure scalable, reliable data services. Hybrid work in CDMX is offered with opportunities to impact a global product suite.

Formación

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field — or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of hands-on Database Administration experience.
• Fluent English, written and verbal.
• Availability to attend the office once a week (Condesa, CDMX).
• Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills with a deep understanding of database internals.
• Solid, hands-on experience with SQL Server environments.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with Product and Technology teams and influence peers to adopt best practices.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, support tickets, and team goals simultaneously.
• Comfort working with AI tools to improve productivity and operational efficiency.

Responsabilidades

• Serve as a subject matter expert for critical database technologies across Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, and MySQL environments.
• Proactively monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning solutions to optimize query response times and throughput.
• Collaborate with engineers to review query designs and schema changes for efficiency and scalability.
• Lead patches, upgrades, migrations with minimal downtime; include backup/recovery and HA/DR testing.
• Mentor and support junior DBAs and application teams, promoting best practices.
• Collect and analyze performance metrics and provide recommendations for improvements.
• Communicate database health, maintenance status and risks to stakeholders.
• Leverage AI-assisted tooling to streamline monitoring and operations.

The Work You'll Do:

At Sovos, we manage and scale the database infrastructure that powers tax compliance for more than 100,000 customers across 100+ countries. As a Senior Database Administrator, you'll be a hands-on technical leader responsible for the performance, security, and availability of our enterprise database environments — keeping mission-critical SaaS applications running at their best.

More specifically, you will:

• Serve as a subject matter expert for critical database technologies, leading resolution of complex incidents and performance issues across Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB, Snowflake, Postgres, and MySQL environments
• Proactively monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning solutions to optimize query response times and system throughput
• Collaborate with software engineers and tech leads to review query designs and schema changes, ensuring efficiency and scalability prior to deployment
• Lead the implementation of patches, upgrades, and migrations with minimal downtime, including backup/recovery strategies, high-availability setups, and disaster recovery testing
• Mentor and support junior DBAs and application teams, driving adoption of database best practices across the organization
• Collect and analyze performance metrics and provide intelligent recommendations for system improvements
• Communicate database health, maintenance status, and potential risks clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Leverage AI-assisted tooling and automation to streamline monitoring, root cause analysis, and operational workflows

What We Need From You

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field — or equivalent experience
• 7+ years of hands-on Database Administration experience
• Fluent English, written and verbal
• Availability to attend the office once a week (Condesa, CDMX)
• Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills with a deep understanding of database internals
