Job description

About the Role

We are looking for a Commodity Specialist to lead material cost reduction and supplier relationship management. Success in this role is measured primarily by Purchase Price Variance (PPV) and cost savings. You will negotiate with new and existing suppliers based on customer RFQs, NPI projects, and cost estimates for major programs, always benchmarking against standard cost and market prices. You will secure the best commercial terms (price, freight, labor, payment, and lead times) while ensuring internal customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities
  • Achieve the annual PPV and cost reduction target: identify, negotiate, implement, and validate savings by commodity (price, freight, labor, tariffs, and payment terms).
  • Track performance against standard cost and report favorable and unfavorable PPV monthly together with Finance.
  • Negotiate terms, conditions, and price lists (long-term framework agreements and blanket purchase orders) using should-cost analysis, competitive bidding, and volume leverage.
  • Lead purchasing activities for major projects and NPI: issue RFQs, clarify requirements, negotiate purchase orders, award business, and set cost targets from the quotation stage.
  • Implement the global sourcing and localization strategy in coordination with the North America supply chain lead (low-cost regions, dual sourcing, supplier consolidation).
  • Help define the regional sourcing strategy and commodity category plans.
  • Lead quarterly business reviews with preferred suppliers covering cost, quality, delivery, and progress on savings initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary contact between suppliers and Engineering, driving value engineering (VAVE), alternate parts, and design-to-cost initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate cost data, savings records, and PPV analysis, and present variance causes and corrective actions to Supply Chain leadership.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering, Materials Management, Supply Chain, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in strategic sourcing or commodity purchasing, with a proven track record of cost reductions and PPV results.
  • Advanced English and Spanish.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (advanced Excel) and ERP/MRP systems.
  • Knowledge of traffic and customs.
Skills
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Cost analysis (should-cost and total cost) and PPV tracking.
  • Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, and teamwork skills.
  • Clear communication of decisions.
How Your Performance Will Be Measured

Primarily by cost reduction and PPV against the annual target. Secondary measures include supplier on-time delivery, RFQ/NPI cycle time, and savings validated by Finance.
