Flex Guadalajara North seeks an Automation Engineer to own automation projects from concept to production. You will design, install, and maintain automation equipment and tooling to meet specifications, while guiding suppliers and supporting NPI initiatives.

The role requires strong software development skills in C#, Python, and .NET, plus experience with REST APIs, OOP, and AI-driven manufacturing solutions. English preferred, on-site at Flex Guadalajara North.

Formación

  • Bachelor's degree required with related experience in automation.
  • Strong software development background focused on industrial automation solutions.
  • Experience designing and implementing automation systems in manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of Industry 4.0/5.0 and digital transformation in manufacturing.
  • Experience applying AI and data-driven technologies to manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to lead technical automation projects with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience integrating industrial equipment, software platforms, and manufacturing technologies.
  • English proficiency preferred.

Responsabilidades

  • Take ownership during the entire life cycle of automation projects, from concept to feasibility and from fabrication and test to production.
  • Define, develop, and deploy automation into Flex sites, designing equipment layouts for efficiency and safety.
  • Design and engineer moderate to complex automation equipment, tooling, and applications.
  • Prepare RFQs and solicit quotations from automation suppliers; evaluate best technical solution, cost, and timing.
  • Develop budgets and schedules for projects and manage to stay within them.
  • Conduct equipment design reviews and provide design guidance to suppliers.
  • Manage automation suppliers through all phases of projects.
  • Provide on-site support during machine build, debug and testing/qualification.
  • Supervise installation and testing to verify requirements and specifications.
  • Draft qualification protocols and support equipment qualification activities.
  • Develop manufacturing solutions with manual, semi-automation and/or full automation; plan workforce utilization.
  • Implement cost effective automation solutions.
  • Support NPI automation needs and assist assembly processes.
  • Interface with customers and functional owners on product development issues; provide recommendations.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide status reports per schedule.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation related to operation of automation equipment.

Responsible for specifying, designing, installing, and maintaining automation equipment, tooling and applications as required to meet specifications.

What a typical day looks like:
  • Take ownership during the entire life cycle of automation projects, from concept to feasibility and from fabrication and test to production.
  • Define, develop, and deploy automation into Flex sites. Design the layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency and safety.
  • Design and engineer moderate and complex automation equipment, tooling, and applications
  • Prepare RFQ’s and solicit quotations from automation suppliers. Evaluate supplier quotations to obtain the best combination of technical solution, cost and timing.
  • Develop budget and schedule for projects and manage projects to stay within them. Able to quickly cost evaluate and work up the financial justification for automating
  • Conduct equipment design reviews and provide design guidance to suppliers.
  • Manage automation suppliers through all phases of projects.
  • Provide on-site support during machine build, debug and testing/qualification.
  • Supervise installation and testing to verify requirements and specifications are met.
  • Draft qualification protocols and support equipment qualification activities.
  • Develop manufacturing solutions with the best combination of manual, semi-automation and/or full automation. Evaluate and plan workforce utilization, space requirements, and workflow.
  • Implement cost effective automation solution.
  • Support new product development automation needs, facilitate assembly processes through the implementation of assembly cells and automated equipment at NPI stage and ensure meeting development timeline.
  • Interface with customers and functional owners on product development issues regarding automation. Conduct design-for-automation examination and provide detailed recommendations.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide status reports as per established schedule.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation related to the operation of the automation equipment
The experience we’re looking to add to our team
  • Bachelor’s Degree is required and related experience/
  • Strong software development background with a focus on industrial automation solutions.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing automation systems in manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of Industry 4.0 and Industry 5.0 principles, including digital transformation and smart manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in C#, Python, Visual Studio, .NET Framework/.NET Core, and REST API integration.
  • Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles and software architecture.
  • Experience applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data-driven technologies to manufacturing processes.
  • Experience developing and supporting software applications for automated production systems.
  • Ability to lead technical automation projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience integrating industrial equipment, software platforms, and manufacturing technologies.
  • Knowledge of real-time data acquisition, traceability systems, and manufacturing execution processes.
  • Experience developing dashboards, reporting tools, and operational analytics solutions.
  • English proficiency preferred
