PALO IT is seeking a Senior API Backend Developer to design, implement, and optimize scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using Python and FastAPI. You will lead architecture decisions, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and mentor peers while applying security and DevOps best practices.

In this role, you will embrace AI-native engineering to scaffold code, generate tests, and improve observability, with a focus on performance and reliability in production environments.

Senior API Backend Developer

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using Python FastAPI.
• Lead backend architecture design and contribute to technical decisions that ensure performance, maintainability, and scalability.
• Collaborate with frontend developers, product teams, and other stakeholders to integrate user-facing elements with server‑side logic.
• Optimize applications for maximum speed, reliability, and scalability while ensuring security and data protection best practices.
• Review code, enforce engineering standards, and mentor other developers to promote high‑quality, maintainable code.
• Identify system bottlenecks, troubleshoot complex issues, and drive performance and reliability improvements.
• Participate in and influence the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, solution design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
• Promote best practices in API design, testing, observability, and CI/CD automation.
• Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and backend engineering practices, and proactively recommend improvements where relevant.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5+ years of experience in backend development, with strong expertise in Python and solid hands‑on experience with FastAPI.
• Strong understanding of RESTful API design principles, microservices architecture, and distributed systems concepts.
• Proven experience designing scalable and maintainable backend systems in production environments.
• Proficient in SQL and/or NoSQL database design, optimization, and performance tuning.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing strategies, and modern DevOps practices.
• Solid understanding of application security, authentication/authorization mechanisms, and secure coding practices.
• Strong problem‑solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex technical challenges and propose pragmatic solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross‑functional, collaborative environments and to guide technical discussions.
• Experience mentoring junior or mid‑level developers and contributing to team growth is highly valued.

Core Expectation: AI‑Native Engineering

• Use generative AI coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor) as a first‑class engineering assistant for code scaffolding, refactoring, generation, and optimisation.
• Generate test cases and documentation.
• Build applications through AI‑driven development practices, such as AI‑assisted debugging and troubleshooting, intelligent code completion and pattern recognition, and automated documentation generation.
• Apply prompt engineering best practices for reliable, repeatable engineering outcomes.
• Validate GenAI output with determinism checks, guardrails, and fallback logic.
