Job summary

ALTEN Mexico is seeking a Body D&R Engineer to oversee design, development and release of BIW components and assemblies for Underbody/Upperbody. You will model with NX, coordinate with suppliers and plants, and ensure milestones, cost, and performance targets are met.

The role requires 3+ years in automotive sheet metal, CAD/PLM proficiency, and strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills. English proficiency is expected and the position is on-site near Toluca/Mexico City.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Automotive Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of experience in automotive sheet metal development.
• Proficient in CAD software and PLM systems.
• Strong knowledge of metal forming and joining techniques.
• Familiarity with GD&T, DFMEA, DVP&R, tolerance stack up, and automotive validation.
• Excellent problem-solving and project management skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Self-motivated, with ability to work cross-functionally.

Responsibilities

• Own and manage the design, development, and release of BIW upper body components and subassemblies.
• Lead development and release of BIW underbody stampings and assemblies.
• Model parts using NX.
• Coordinate with external suppliers, internal stamping plants, and vehicle plant body shop to meet milestones and performance targets.
• Develop and manage CBOM and Quadris for subassemblies.
• Create Source Package documentation and manage technical reviews with suppliers and internal teams.
• Define and track engineering validation plans (DVP&R, DFMEA, PFMEA) and coordinate testing.
• Provide onsite plant launch support to address fit and finish issues and launch gating.

We are currently seeking a talented and motivated Body Design & Release Engineer to join our team. As a Body Design & Release Engineer, you will be responsible for the engineering, design, development, timing, and production release of body components and systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate design and development of body systems, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the design and release processes.

The area we are seeking currently to cover is Body-In-White: Underbody / Upperbody.

Requirements

The Body D&R Engineer is responsible for the component and system level design, development, validation, timing and production release of the following areas:

• Vision Body-In-White components:
• Underbody
• Upperbody

Key responsibilities:

• Own and manage the design, development, and release of BIW upper body components and subassemblies / Lead the development and release of BIW underbody stampings and assemblies.
• This includes parametric modeling using NX.
• Work with external suppliers, internal stamping plants, and vehicle plant body shop to ensure manufacturability, cost, and material performance meet project milestones and vehicle functional objectives.
• Develop and manage CBOM and Quadris for subassemblies.
• Create Source Package technical documentation and manage technical reviews with the suppliers and internal Client teams.
• Define and track engineering validation plans (DVP&R, DFMEA, PFMEA) and coordinate physical testing.
• Provide onsite plant launch support to triage, root cause and establish corrective actions to address assembly, build variation, BSR or any other fit and finish items or launch gating issues.
• Ensure designs comply with internal standards, vehicle performance targets, and regulatory requirements.
• Communicate project status, risks, and deliverables to stakeholders across engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and quality teams.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
• 3+ years of experience in automotive sheet metal development or related area.
• Proficient in CAD software (Teamcenter, NX, Vis Pro) and PLM systems.
• Strong knowledge of metal forming and joining techniques.
• Familiarity with GD&T, DFMEA, DVP&R, tolerance stack up, and typical automotive validation testing.
• Excellent problem-solving and project management skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Self-motivated individual.

Language: Advanced English (technical comprehension and international team communication).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Tier 1 suppliers and OEMs.
• Knowledge of style freeze processes and theme evaluation.
• In-plant experience (tool tryouts, assembly, program launch).
• Familiarity with automotive quality standards (e.g., IATF 16949).
