Duties
  • You will evaluate media and public reports to incorporate knowledge into outgoing messages, responses, and communication products.
  • You will liaison with base radio and television producers to ensure information is published and broadcast for the greatest reach of audiences.
  • You will write and edit materials such as reports, articles, pamphlets, scripts, or speeches to develop and present factual information.
  • You will plan and manage content for base publication and for release to external media.

  • This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas country's laws/regulations.

Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
1) Planning and managing public affairs content for publications, events, website, and external media releases and activities;
2) Writing and editing news releases, publications, pamphlets, and articles to present factual information; and
3) Overseeing the writing, editing, layout, and printing of a variety of documents utilizing desktop publishing software (i.e., Microsoft Office, Microsoft FrontPage, Associated Press Style Guide, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Photoshop).

Limited walking, standing and bending when working in typical office environment and with light camera equipment; on photography and journalism assignments.
Work will generally be performed in an office environment with adequate ventilation, heating, cooling and lighting. Periods of outdoor work are sometimes required when gathering information for a story, monitoring an event or conducting a photo shoot. Work consists of travelling between Capodichino, Support Site, Gaeta and other off base venues in which a duty van or POV will be authorized.

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
Master's or equivalent graduate degree

2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

Priority consideration will be given to military spouse preference and family member preference eligible residing in the commute area of the duty location for this position. Commute area is defined as the geographic area surrounding the duty location in which people can reasonably be expected to travel back and forth daily.
Military Spouses and Family Members may apply 30 days before their anticipated arrival date. However, they will not receive preference until arrival at the foreign location. Additional documentation may be required prior to granting preference.
Military spouses and family members who are appointed may not extend longer than 2 months following the transfer of the sponsor from the commuting area of the foreign duty station; 2 months beyond the separation of the appointee's sponsor; or any time beyond the time employee ceases to be a family member.
