RINA is currently recruiting for a Trieste Senior Marine Surveyor to join its office in Trieste, Italy within the Mediterranean and Africa Marine Division.

Mission

The Senior Surveyor serves as an experienced and knowledgeable professional within the organization, applying expertise in maritime Rules, Regulations, and industry principles. The Senior Surveyor plays a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy, quality, and continuous improvement of surveying processes. #LI-MC1

Key Accountabilities
  • Professional Expertise: Serve as a subject matter expert on maritime Rules, Regulations, and industry standards. Continuously update your knowledge by monitoring industry trends and regulatory changes, applying this to refine surveying methodologies and safety protocols.
  • Inspection & Compliance: Conduct detailed and systematic surveys on a variety of marine assets including classed ships, offshore structures, and associated equipment to verify compliance with classification society standards and statutory requirements. Compile precise, comprehensive reports detailing findings, observations, and recommendations.
  • Leadership & Coordination: Plan and oversee the execution of survey activities ensuring alignment with schedules and quality benchmarks. Mentor and guide junior surveyors, fostering a collaborative environment that promotes knowledge sharing, technical skill enhancement, and adherence to organizational standards.
  • Client Engagement: Act as a key liaison between clients and the surveying team to address technical challenges and resolve issues efficiently. Build lasting relationships based on clear communication, trust, and responsiveness to client needs.
  • Training & Development: Facilitate training sessions and development initiatives aimed at elevating the competency and expertise of surveyors. Encourage continuous professional development and contribute to succession planning efforts within the team.
  • Quality Assurance: Maintain rigorous standards for the quality, consistency, and accuracy of surveying outputs. Implement quality control procedures and promote best practices throughout the service delivery process.
  • Ethical Standards: Uphold the utmost integrity, transparency, and fairness in all aspects of survey work, embodying the ethical principles that underpin the company's reputation and responsibilities within the maritime sector.
Education

Master’s Degree in Naval Engineering

Qualifications
  • Minimum of three years’ direct experience as a Surveyor, or at least six years in engineering, inspection, or survey roles within an IACS member Classification Society.
  • Master’s Degree in Naval Engineering or a closely related technical field to ensure foundational knowledge of shipbuilding, marine engineering, and maritime regulations.
  • Strong understanding of RINA’s strategic positioning within the marine industry and familiarity with its classification and statutory certification framework.
  • Fluency in English sufficient to confidently manage classification procedures, statutory certification documentation, and client communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret engineering drawings, shipbuilding practices, and operational procedures relevant to marine vessels.
  • Capability to conduct a wide range of surveys, including new building assessments, in-service inspections, complex repairs, and conversions in compliance with rules and statutory requirements.
  • Experience with Marine Management Systems audits and familiarity with certification of service suppliers or manufacturers preferred.
  • Proficiency with computer software and technical tools associated with surveying, reporting, and project coordination.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ship engineering systems, machinery, and associated technical interfaces to support multidisciplinary project collaboration.
