The Human Technopole Foundation is looking for a Technician of High-Throughput Technologies for the UI1 High Throughput Sequencing unit of the National Facility for Genomics.

The National Facility for Genomics provides state-of-the-art and innovative services in genomics. Its core mission is to implement robust experimental and analytical workflows to probe all major domains of genomic exploration, including but not limited to the analysis of DNA, RNA, chromatin, and other markers of epigenetic and regulatory activity. These techniques can be applied to diverse areas of biology, with resolution spanning whole organisms, tissues, or individual cells. Overall, NF Genomics aims to empower research in all domains of genomics for the Italian scientific community at large.

In this context, the Technician of High-Throughput Technologies, reporting directly to the Head of NF Genomics, will become part of the team of the High Throughput Sequencing unit of the Genomics National Facility. The core of IU1 operations involves cutting-edge automated systems, carefully designed to continually elevate productivity and enhance cost-effectiveness.

About the Unit :

  • This Unit uses advanced technology to streamline processes and accelerate sample processing and sequencing, integrating high-tech protocols and automation, setting new standards in genomics research. IU1 transcends the conventional role of a service provider; it stands at the technological frontier, constantly striving for innovation and pushing the boundaries of genomics, transcriptomics, and epigenomics analyses.

Key tasks and responsibilities

  1. Handle sample and library preparation for Genomics, Transcriptomics, Epigenomics, Metagenomics, and high-throughput multi-omics single-cell analysis, including automation-intensive workstations.
  2. Manage data collection and evaluation support, including using a LIMS for data and sample tracking.
  3. Operate NGS sequencers (e.g., Illumina, MGI, Oxford Nanopore platforms).
  4. Handle sequencing data, including storage of data and metadata and preparation of sequencing files.
  5. Support the development and implementation of SOPs and experimental pipelines.
  6. Participate in general Facility management, including inventories and stocks of samples, reagents, and equipment.
  7. Report regularly to colleagues and line managers on project flow and timelines.
  8. Contribute to the implementation of new sequencing technologies and platforms.
  9. Collaborate with senior technicians to offer consulting services to external users and support project execution.

Mandatory requirements :

  1. Master’s degree in biology, genetics, biochemistry, or related life sciences field.
  2. At least 1 year of hands-on experience with multiple genomic technologies, including library preparation and sequencing for genomics, transcriptomics, and epigenomics analyses (e.g., Illumina).
  3. Knowledge of NGS platforms (e.g., Illumina, MGI).
  4. Experience with automated sample preparation systems (e.g., nucleic acids extraction, library prep).
  5. Fluency in English – HT is an international research institute.

Preferred requirements :

  1. Experience with LIMS for data and sample tracking.
  2. Good knowledge of bioinformatics tools for handling, storing, and preparing genomics data files.
