What You’ll Do

• Collaborate daily with our CTO to support and scale technical and operational initiatives
• Act as a bridge across departments: engineering, design, HR, customer success, finance, and marketing
• Help design, implement, and improve internal tools, workflows, and documentation
• Tackle technical tasks or coordinate with dev teams as needed
• Participate in high-level strategy and planning, while handling hands-on execution
• Absorb cross-functional knowledge and gradually own more responsibility
• Contribute to scaling our infrastructure, systems, and team culture as we grow
  
  

Who You Are

• 4+ years of experience in a technical role (e.g., engineering, DevOps, product tech)
• Strong generalist mindset: willing and able to dive into new domains beyond engineering
• Highly organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple workstreams with little oversight
• Excellent communicator, comfortable working with both technical and non-technical teams
• Passionate about startups, tech, and making an impact through education
  
  

Hard Skills (Required)

Backend Architecture

• Proficient in NestJS microservices (20+ services in production)
• Deep understanding of microservices design patterns: API Gateway, BFF, etc.
• Redis caching (both DB and gateway level)
• RESTful API development and integration
  
  

Cloud & DevOps

• Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (especially App Engine)
• Google Cloud Pub/Sub for event-driven architecture
• Cloud infrastructure monitoring and scalability
• Comfortable with Linux system administration, Bash & Python scripting
• Familiarity with SSH, HTTPS, FTP protocols and server-side troubleshooting
  
  

Data Engineering & Processing

• Real-time data pipelines using MongoDB Atlas, Google Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub
• Google Cloud Dataflow (Apache Beam + Python), BigQuery (with layered staging models)
• Proficient in stream processing (Apache Beam), familiar with Apache Spark
• Strong understanding of streaming architectures, scalability, and fault tolerance
  
  

Authorization Models (MUST HAVE)

• Direct experience with RBAC, ABAC, and ReBAC in production
• Deep understanding of access control patterns and logic
• Experience with CASL for frontend/backend access control
  
  

Frontend Awareness & Design Systems

• Familiar with Vue/Nuxt apps and REST API integration
• Tools: Figma, Token Studio, Supernova, Canva
• Knowledge of token-based design systems and component library integration
  
  

Testing & Automation

• Automated testing with Apidog, Playwright
• Familiar with Chromatic, BrowserStack, visual regression testing
• Experience integrating tests into CI pipelines and QA strategy
  
  

Media Processing & Automation

• FFmpeg for video/image transformation
• Cloud rendering APIs for dynamic content generation
• Make.com for automating internal workflows
  
  

Real-Time & Distributed Systems

• Experience with Socket.IO, TCP communication
• Familiar with event-based orchestration and distributed system scaling
  
  

Security & Moderation

• Google Vision API for automated content moderation
• Secure API design, authenticated communication flows
  
  

AI & Data Integration

• Analytical workloads using BigQuery
• Experience with GPT APIs, prompt engineering, AI integration
• Implementing versioning systems for evolving database schemas
  
  

Payments & Video Conferencing

• Stripe APIs for payments and billing integration
• 100ms APIs for live video conferencing features
  
  

Project Management & Operations

• Command of Scrum methodology
• Tools: ClickUp or similar
• Ability to translate strategic objectives into implementation steps
  
  

Bonus Points For

• Mobile development using Flutter, React Native, or native platforms
• Experience with scalable design systems using design tokens
• Curiosity and experimentation with AI-powered tools in dev/design workflows
• Fluency or working proficiency in Italian (especially for internal team collaboration)
• Demonstrated ability to mentor, lead teams, or grow into a CTO/COO role
• Prior experience in early-stage startups (EdTech/B2C a plus)
• Familiarity with complex, multi-service, event-driven system architecture
• Deep passion for EdTech and solving real-world problems with technology

• Time Zone: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Italy time)

Compensation

• $28.00 – $35.00/hour
• 40+ hrs/week, Contract-to-Hire via Upwork
• Paid overtime for emergency or urgent projects
