The Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC), AWS for Government, Storage Services team is hiring a cleared Systems Development Engineer to join the team. This is an opportunity to use the latest cloud computing technologies to help U.S. Government agencies implement innovative cloud computing solutions and solve technical problems.

You will join a team of engineers operating Amazon Elastic File System (EFS), Amazon FSx, and Amazon S3 on Outposts, services that host some of our customers’ most sensitive data. This role offers the chance to impact some of the largest-scaled systems in the world while working with experienced professionals in the field.

A successful Systems Development Engineer focuses on troubleshooting complex system operations spanning enterprise-wide scope, not just server-level issues. You will participate in developing and building new features for these services to enable customers’ missions. A solid foundation in multiple operating systems, networking, and general cloud service knowledge is required. You will work with Amazon’s largest and most demanding customers to address needs across a full suite of services and delve into technical issues to improve the customer experience.

This position requires that the candidate possess and maintain an active TS/SCI with polygraph security clearance, and after start obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph or commensurate clearance for each government agency for which AWS work is performed.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and engineer systems at massive scale and troubleshoot complex operational issues.
• Deep dive to root cause customer issues, investigate metrics trends, and collaborate with senior engineers to automate operational tasks.
• Design and build operational scalability to support platform growth and improve customer experience.
• Work with services such as EFS, FSx, and S3 on Outposts to support government customers.
• Contribute to feature development and problem-solving for enterprise cloud solutions.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• Associate's degree or above, or CND (Certified Network Defender) or GSEC (GIAC Security Essentials)
• Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby
• Experience with automation tools (building, testing, releasing or monitoring)
• Knowledge of and proficiency in Python scripting language
• Current, active US Government Security Clearance of TS/SCI with Polygraph

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of and proficiency in Python scripting language
• Experience on highly concurrent, high throughput systems and knowledge of complex distributed systems

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $89,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
