Prometeia in Bologna is seeking a System Administrator to join its ICT Department. You will be the second-level reference for the company’s infrastructure, handling escalations from first-level support and contributing to the evolution of IT systems, with duties spanning servers, networks, backups and security.

The ideal candidate has a Master’s in a scientific field and at least five years’ experience in networking and infrastructure projects, plus hands-on skills in Windows and Linux,

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Corporate IT function, the successful candidate will act as a second-level reference point for the company's infrastructure, managing escalations from first-level support and contributing to the evolution of IT systems.

Key responsibilities include

• Managing and maintaining server infrastructure (Windows and Linux), virtualization environments, and container platforms
• Overseeing networking, firewalling, and security activities to ensure system reliability and protection
• Managing backup, replication, disaster recovery, monitoring, and business continuity processes
• Automating recurring tasks through scripting and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices
• Supporting infrastructures serving AI workloads and contributing to the adoption of AI-based tools within IT processes
• Handling second-level escalations, producing documentation and procedures, and acting as a point of reference for first-level support teams

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Master's degree with strong academic results in a scientific discipline (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related fields)
• At least 5 years of professional experience managing Networking and Infrastructure projects

TECHNICAL SKILLS

• Systems and Automation: Administration of Windows and Linux environments, scripting (PowerShell, Bash, and Python), Infrastructure as Code (Ansible and Terraform)
• Containers and Virtualization: Experience with major virtualization platforms, Docker and Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines and GitOps methodologies
• Networking: Wired and wireless networking, Firewall management, SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) solutions
• Security: Identity and Access Management (Active Directory, Entra ID, MFA), System hardening, vulnerability management, Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), Basic knowledge of SIEM and Zero Trust architectures
• Data Protection and Business Continuity: Backup, replication, and disaster recovery solutions, monitoring and observability tools
• AI: Support for AI/ML infrastructures, including GPU-based workloads, basic knowledge of MLOps and AIOps tools
• Nice-to-have skills: Mobile Device Management (Intune), macOS administration, relevant certifications (Microsoft, CKA, CCNA, Security certifications)

SOFT SKILLS

• Strong diagnostic, problem-solving, incident management, and escalation handling capabilities, including under pressure and within SLA constraints
• Effective communication skills, documentation abilities (runbooks and knowledge bases), and a mentoring mindset toward first-level support teams
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, teamwork orientation, and commitment to internal customer service
• Continuous learning mindset to keep pace with rapidly evolving technologies
• Good command of English; knowledge of a second language is considered an advantage
