Cummins is seeking a motivated Supplier Quality Engineer Intern for a 6-month internship in Cameri (Novara), Italy. This fully onsite role offers hands-on experience in supplier quality management, incoming inspection, and cross-functional collaboration with Quality, Production, Logistics, and Purchasing teams.

You will gain exposure to ISO 9001/IATF 16949 quality systems and core tools while supporting continuous improvement and containment activities on the shop floor.

Competenze

• Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Automotive, Quality).
• Italian language proficiency (C1/C2) and strong English communication are required.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 and core quality tools is advantageous.

We are looking for a motivated Supplier Quality Engineer Intern to join our Quality team for a 6-month internship in Cameri (Novara), Italy. The role is fully onsite, and we have a preference for candidates who are already based in the Cameri/Novara area.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge of supplier quality management and incoming inspection processes, working closely with the Quality, Production, Logistics, Manufacturing Engineering, and Purchasing teams. You will gain hands‑on experience in a manufacturing environment and contribute to initiatives aimed at improving supplier quality performance and preventing quality issues from impacting production.

Responsibilities

• Incoming Inspection Strategy: Support the development and implementation of a risk‑based Incoming Inspection Strategy, helping to define inspection plans and frequencies based on supplier quality performance, product criticality, process capability, historical defect data, and supplier maturity.
• Supplier Quality Management: Support the Quality team in monitoring supplier‑related quality issues affecting production and in coordinating containment activities for non‑conforming materials, including material segregation, sorting, rework, and stock protection activities.
• Supplier Non‑Conformance Management: Support the management of supplier non‑conformities, including the preparation and follow‑up of Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs), review of supplier corrective actions, and monitoring of their implementation and effectiveness.
• Data Analysis and Continuous Improvement: Analyze incoming inspection and supplier quality data to identify recurring issues, trends, and opportunities for improvement. Support initiatives aimed at optimizing inspection activities and promoting a prevention‑oriented approach based on supplier capability and risk management.
• Cross‑functional Collaboration: Work closely with Production, Logistics, Manufacturing Engineering, Supplier Quality, and Purchasing teams to investigate quality issues, support problem‑solving activities, and contribute to the successful introduction of new supplier components.
• Audit and Compliance Support: Assist with internal, customer, and certification audits, helping to ensure compliance with applicable quality standards and customer requirements. Support activities related to the verification of supplier process controls and corrective actions when required.

Qualifications

• Education: Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Automotive, Quality, or a related field).
• Language Skills: Fluency in Italian (C1/C2) and good communication skills in English, both written and spoken, to work effectively in a global corporate environment.
• Technical Knowledge: Basic understanding of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001 and/or IATF 16949) and familiarity with problem‑solving methodologies. Knowledge of Quality Core Tools, such as PFMEA, Control Plan, MSA, SPC, and APQP, is an asset.
• PC Skills: Good command of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, with strong data analysis capabilities.
• Additional Skills: Ability to read and understand technical drawings and manufacturing documentation is preferred.
• Soft Skills: Strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, proactive approach, good communication and interpersonal skills, and a willingness to learn. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working cross‑functionally and spending time on the manufacturing shop floor.
• Experience: Previous internship or apprenticeship experience in an automotive or manufacturing environment is considered a plus.
