Job summary

OWBC is seeking a Substitute Teacher to support Head Start curriculum and program planning under close supervision. The role involves assisting with daily activities, planning, and coordinating with families and staff to ensure a safe, engaging classroom environment.

The position reports to the Center Director and requires adherence to safety policies, strong organizational skills, and reliable attendance. CPR/First Aid and a Texas driver’s license are required, with opportunities for growth

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid Texas driver’s license.
• Adult and Pediatric CPR and First Aid certifications required.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety in performing all job responsibilities and adhere to safety policy
• Maintain clean/safe work area, classroom, and gross motor and playground areas
• Assist with planning and preparation of daily activities
• Encourage parents to give input into daily curriculum and document on lesson plans and to complete physical, dental and health screenings and follow-up in a timely manner
• Assist with the implementation child’s Individual Education Plan / Individual leaning Plan into classroom activities
• Integrate activities from all content areas into the classroom
• Provide customer service in reception, greet and direct visitors at the site
• Follow step-by-step activities as outlined in content area plans and policies and procedures
• Participate in professional development, sometimes off-site, at the request of supervisor
• Responsible for and able to handle confidential material
• Communicate with parents about daily experiences if teacher is not available
• Assist or model correct tooth brushing daily
• Assist with family-style meals
• All employees are expected to adhere to OWBC ethics and expectations
• Must be able to cooperate and work effectively with others
• Must be diplomatic, honest and fair
• Regular and Punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
• Perform other duties as assigned or as they become apparent
• Performs other duties as assigned.
