The Strategic Buyer is responsible for developing and executing strategies for a specific group or category, managing associated suppliers, and overseeing the entire external supply chain from supplier to production. The role involves identifying optimization opportunities to reduce procurement costs and ensuring procurement processes align with project goals.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate negotiations for major project purchases within defined commodities, utilizing available resources and collaborating with the business unit.
- Manage and direct operational buyers, maintaining inventory levels within the commodity group or category.
- Develop and enforce supplier contracts, including NDAs, quality agreements, and business agreements in an international environment.
- Manage the supplier portfolio, conduct market analysis, benchmarking, and price negotiations.
- Execute RFQs, perform purchase price analyses, and negotiate with suppliers, including supplier evaluations.
- Achieve targets related to purchasing savings and inventory management.
- Conduct supplier audits in collaboration with RA/QA teams.
- Create and evaluate monthly KPIs, implementing measures for improvement.
- Perform annual risk assessments of key suppliers.
- Support manufacturing plants in resolving supplier issues to meet delivery targets.
- Address complex complaints and delivery problems with suppliers.
- Assist R&D in launching new products with existing or new suppliers.
- Maintain key supplier and material master data.
- Drive internal process improvements and adopt best practices.
- Ensure suppliers are prepared for production and all system updates are completed.
- Ensure compliance with procurement policies and standards.
- Develop and implement standards to support continuous improvement programs.
- Collaborate with project managers to review and approve supplier operation plans.
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain Management, or related fields.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong negotiation and communication skills, even in challenging situations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SAP ERP, procurement processes, negotiation strategies, and data analysis.
- Fluent in English, with the ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels.
- Problem-solving skills, proactive attitude, energy, and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Flexible, diplomatic, cooperative, and enthusiastic approach.
- Willingness to travel as required.
Experience & Background
- At least 3 years managing a supplier portfolio or technical product group in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience managing international projects.
- Experience working in an international company.
- Previous purchasing experience of complex technical products such as pumps, fans, pneumatic components, etc.
