An international non-profit organization is seeking a Staff Accountant to manage financial records for their international operations. The ideal candidate will have strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online and at least two years of experience in a finance role. About the position

The Staff Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities. This role supports the accounting and bookkeeping needs of a US-based 501(c)(3) organization with international operations (70+ staff across nearly 20 countries). The position reports directly to the Director of Finance & Operations.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Perform general cost accounting and related duties.
  2. Prepare monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
  3. Maintain the general ledger.
  4. Code invoices, set up new accounts, reconcile accounts, and close monthly books.
  5. Perform monthly bank reconciliations, verify deposits, and handle bank inquiries.
  6. Reconcile cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and manage accounts receivable collections.
  7. Verify and process payments of invoices associated with accounts payable, ensuring charges are accurate.
  8. Respond to team leaders’ financial inquiries.
  9. Assist outside auditors by providing necessary account information and documents for annual audits.
  10. File tax forms with federal, state, and local agencies.
  11. Coordinate with software vendors to maintain and recommend updates to accounting software systems.
  12. Manage purchasing and invoicing systems.
  13. Keep updated on acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
  14. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online (verified through certifications) is mandatory.
  • At least two years of finance experience in a for-profit or non-profit organization with 25+ staff members.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of general and cost accounting principles.
  • Understanding and adherence to generally accepted accounting principles.

Ideal Skills

  • Ability to work across currencies.
  • Proficiency with accounting software such as Bill.com and Ramp.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of three years of related experience.

Languages: Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Spanish and/or Italian is desirable.
